From your summary I thought this would be a lot more depressing. Instead its a bit more of a revenge type thing, the anger and thoughts of violence certainly do take your mind off the reality of death :)
I think it would be much more powerful if it was more like your summary, but its still enjoyable though not with as moving a message.
