Go away Jeremy, we don't need you! We have Matt. I'm a bit surprised at Natalie's reaction though. I thought it might be a case where wanting something and nothing having it builds up the anticipation, and when you do get it, it's a bit of a letdown because you imagined it to be something better than it could possibly ever have been. You know what I'm saying? Although I suppose there's still room for that, because she's still dwelling in the whole astonishment of Jeremy liking her back deal. I realize she's feeling some disappointment with the Matt thing, but her feelings for Jeremy still seem to be fully intact. :P
'“And then he said he could get his dad’s Cadillac for the dance,” she chattered on, not noticing my lack of a response beyond a perfunctory “Oh yeah?” or “Uh huh.”'
Or, "tell 'em like it is". No one ever catches onto those when you're pretending to pay attention to a conversation while really concentrating on something far more interesting. Unless you happen to miss-time it... and then the other person looks at you like you're nuts. It's an art, really. It takes many, many years of practice to master.

Isn't it a shame things are always so much clearer in hindsight? Life would be so much simpler if everything were straightforward and in neon letters.
I must say, I can totally relate to this story, even if I've never had one of my guy friends try to help me get another guy. It's the confusion aspect that's horrible - and it kind of happened to me in the opposite way. ::sigh::
Never mind me. I'm just feeling nostalgic and confused. The story is lovely, and I'm glad Natalie got at least what she thinks she wants... It's so hard to look at your friends and realize they're something more to that. Once they're stuck in the friends category, there's just no getting out, at least without a struggle.
