Last century the number was millions (the Kuomintang murdered perhaps 4 or 5 million during its time in power on the mainland.

Firstly I'll say this:
1. I didn't agree with the Iraq War, but I shan't go into details on why right here.
2. I do agree with you that even if a person doesn't agree with the initial invasion, they must surely agree with the occupation - if they have any capacity for logical thought. Having been plunged into chaos Iraq needs foreign troops to create some semblance of order. Without them Iraq will become another crazed Islamic theocracy (like its neighbour). Of course this may yet happen anyway... we shall see.
3. Your comments that Afghanistan seems to be improving are a little overly idyllic. Afghanistan is as bad now as it was following the Soviet invasion - Afghanistan is a screwed up country due to internal racial nationalism and religious strife (nationalism and religion, working their wonders yet again).
4. The history of US foreign policy is far from being the history of virtue - the US has supported innummerable fascist dictators in the past - in Latin America, in Asia (most notably Chiang Kai-shek - and his Kuomintang). The number of murders committed by US allies - think the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan - is beyond count. Indeed this century the number is several hundreds of thousands - possibly over a million.
5. If the US were really a power for good in the world - as its brainwashed, nationalist supporters claim - it would be doing away with regimes that make Hussein's look rather plesant and benevolent. In Myanmar a hundred thousand US troops would easily overthrow the incumbent regime and encounter almost no resistance afterwards. Unlike in Muslim countries, where any 'infidel' is thoroughly despised beyond reason... the population of Myanmar would readily support the US if that power backed Aung San Suu Kyi (the democratically elected leader of Myanmar and a nobel peace prize laureate). There wouldn't be a prolonged guerilla movement in Myanmar. There wouldn't be bombings and violent interacial conflict. And one of the world's worst regimes would be gone. But Myanmar has no oil. Nor do most of the war torn Sub-Saharan African nations that have far worse records than Baathist Iraq. And those that do are willing to give their oil to US companies anyway - so their human rights abuses go unnoticed. In short realise this: there are many, many, many regimes as bad or worse than Hussein's - but many are of little interest economically and aren't yet opposed to the US so successive ineffectual governments in the US are willing to let them slide. Once you start preaching the destruction of these vile abominations I might pay your talk of freedom and liberation some credit. Until then I shall assume you are just another brain-washed, conservative nationalist.

i agree with your previous reviewer about the UK, but ps its the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. i am insulted that you forget the wee country. Plus we fought that war too (though i ashamed to admit it) plus i would like to know why its called frendly fire when americans bomb down a british plane, its got a british mark on it how can you miss it? great were gonna have an between its allies or not policing the world.

1) The invasion of Iraq was called "Operation Enduring Freedom".
2) Jose Maria Aznar was Prime Minister, not President, of Spain.
3) The generally agreed spellings of Osama Bin Laden's terrorist network are al-Qua'ida and al-Qua'eda.
4) England is not an independent country. In an essay such as yours it would be correct to refer to the country in question as the "United Kingdom" (UK for short), and its inhabitants as "British".

I was against the war in Iraq but I'm for the rebuilding effort. What the Spanish government did was a big mistake. Whether or not the invasion was a total error or not, they just gave what the terrorists want. What happened a year before is in the past and the goal now is to get Iraq on standing on its own two feet.

Frankly, we could all learn something from the Spanish.
