I know nothing of haikus.
I just started writing something similar called "katautas" which is 3 unrhymed lines of 5/7/7 syllables. There is another name where you double this: 5/7/7 5/7/7) which is cool because the two can answer each other, like the first being from a baby's point of view and the second being from the mother's! You might try this, they are fun!
Mine are "Pomegranite Seeds". "A Protest Against Meachanical Time", "Love Laughs" and another, I forget. These wil give an idea.
BUT I do LOVE these! The imagry is so very VERY rich! Very evocative!
Yes, yes, very cool indeed! I also love to review, this is like my (goes to check, brb ...) three-hundred and fouty-first (341!) review! and, I have only been a member since ... 10-25-03! woo-hoo! Each one is unique and written especially for each poem. So, there you are! ;-)

Well, I love sunsets, too. I suppose it's just their sheer beauty that captivates me as does this poem. There is very nice imagery and I like the mixture of sadness and nature. Had you not said anything, I would not have thought or realized that this was a first try, which makes this haiku even better.
