You're right, I do like this! And it's all true! My mom is a huge Red Sox fan (though she can't name any current player other than Nomar). I live in Portland, Oregon but my dad lives in New England and I visit him in the summer and the winter. Oh the enjoyment I get from watching the Yankees demolish the Sox in the summer, and counting up the 'magic number' (the number of games the Yankees are ahead of the Sox by). And, in the winter, how they say "this is our year" and all that is kinda funny too. It's great fun for a Yankee fan.
Anyway, I'm going to finish reading this and thank you for reviewing A Perfect Game. ~V
PS: they traded Boomer tonight...what's become of our starting rotation?

Why am I reminded of Manchester United?
And if the President still owns that baseball team in Texas (or was if football?) then no doubt the CIA will get involved eventually.

Interesting take on the off-season acquisitions. But all I can say is this. Go Tigers! Heh heh heh.

This was the best chapter yet. You almost managed to stay neutral through the thing, something I know is tough for you.
Now just let me add a few things of my own:
First, as I've said to you before, anyone who argues they hate the Yankees because they buy their teams is an idiot. I hate the Yankees more than anyone I know, but not because they're willing to spend money.
Second, you guys got Shefield, we got Schilling. But like they say (and like the yanks proved in the ALCS) good pitching beats good hitting any day. You did get Vazquez, but mark my words, your gonna regert giving up Johnson either this year or next year.
Third, A-Rod's not comming to Boston. I'd love to see it happen, but its just not going to.
Fourth, just a little mistake, the term "Red Sox Nation" goes way back. It wasn't coined at the same time we reffered to you as the "Evil Empire". Maybe thats just when the name got national.
And finally, I just want to make sure you heard what was said on "Around the Horn" on ESPN last night. Max said, "It's just something people are just going to have to accept. BOSTON IS TAKING OVER BASEBALL." (my emphasis not his) Now there's a national show with no bias, and you heard what he said. Just accept it Steve, Theo Epstien is the best GM in all of sports.

It's nice to know that the Red Sox management is willing to spend as much money as Stienbrenner on players. I'm rooting for the Sox to sign Pettite, we could use another starting pitcher. A-Rod would be nice, but I'd miss Nomah. Look's like we'll have a pretty good team next year, good enough to make it to the World Series anyway. Oh, by the way, are you a Dolphins fan? It'd give me another reason to hate you.

this is a rather old topic but i'd like to comment on our greatest national past time. myself being a boston red sox fan and a mets fan as well (don't ask how i became both but just know that i did) i've grown to hate the yankees. a lot.
the reason that they faultered in the series was really the reason that marlins played better. as the anti- yankee chant went 'little things, win rings'. and it did. aaron boone's error. soriano slumping. and all i have to say is AHA!
but if you also look at it this way... boston got to the NLCS finals without any playoff experience in like three years. cubs won a single playoff round and broke their curse. marlins win a series... and yankees did not win a series? surprised? actually im not. for the last three years ever since the downfall of the mets team, the yanks havent won a single world series and and mets havent entered playoffs ever since. coincidence? only time will tell but until then, im just going to enjoy the yankee fans get their hopes up in winning a series and then watch it all crumble come october :)

. That's taken you down a few pegs, methinks. It's always nice seeing the smartass 'invincible heavyweights get taken down, just like the Wales vs New Zealand rugby game the other day. AHAHAHAHAHA!

I have to admit, the Yankees are my least favorite baseball team, but that's not what I meant. I just find it amusing to watch you and Calvin Fitzgerald vainly refute each other's various attacks on the opposing teams.
Note: I never said you were bitter.

replied to that one fast. i can't exactly rebutt (is that a word?) any of your other arguments, because i will admit that your arguments are well thought out and i have no desire to pick through them, as i am too busy reveling in the fact that the yankees could not beat the marlins to think of much else. at least their game against bsoton was forced into extra innings.
p.s. i am a red sox fan. sadly living in new york.

Hey, just keep repeating to yourself: "I am not bitter, I am not bitter, I am not bitter" maybe the pain'll go away. I hope not.
YANKEES SUCK
Sorry, that just kinda came out, natural reaction and all.

ohh.. the yankees lost and someone's a little bitter. hee hee.
p.s. loved how you extolled the virtues of the yankees, so confident in their greatness, in the first chapter. it made it that much sweeter for me to watch them lose.

Wow...sounds like someone is bitter, very very bitter. Let me think of a sympethetic way to put this:
YANKEES SUCK YANKEES SUCK, HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.
Oh wait there's more: THATS THREE YEARS IN A ROW! LOSERS!
And in Conclusion: YANKEES SUCK!
I'm sorry, but the Yanks only lose like this once every couple of decades, you have to enjoy it while you can.

It's not that we're jealous, it's just that we (the rest of the American League) hate the Yankees so very, very much.
It's almost an American passtime in and of itself. Yankee hatred, I mean.
But as much as I intensely dislike the New York Yankees, you did mention a certain baseball figure in your essay that I, as a diehard Mariner, hate even more.
Alex. Fucking. Rodriguez. Little "it isn't about the money" shit. Yeah, well, we went on to get 116 wins without you, ya little punk.
~He Who Walks On All Fours
PS - I know how incredibly unlikely it is that Alex Rodriguez reads these boards, but just in case, I think that's quite a nice little note, eh?:)
