I know I’m like, years late on this story! I absolutely adore this story so far! The chemistry between Shawn and Halley is clearly there! The only thing that I want to comment on that is kind of bugging me is that you can’t just quit the army because you don’t like it. Once you sign that contract your life is theirs until the contract ends or some sort of discharge (ie. medical, uncharacterized, dishonorable, etc.) Anyways, can’t wait to finish reading this!

I am in love! It's great to find another author who gets the horse stuff right! It bugs me to know end when I read a story and nothing is dine correctly!
Do you ride? I'm guessing you do, you're really good at researching...haha. I've been riding for five years, not long, but I feel like I've been doing it my entire life! I live it! Barrels especially. And team penning and steer daubing :) anyway...
Great story :) can't wait to get back to reading!

I love this story. It's so sweet and cute. I read it through ADOR which gave it such a good review I had to check it out for myself. I only wish Shawn and Halley had more interaction but I'm greedy that way. Otherwise it was a great read.
Also I was in the library (can't remember the last time I've been ) and remembered your published book. Unfortunately for me someone else had checked it out already so will have to visit the bookstore. Congratulations by the way although I am a tad late. Good luck with future
publishings!

Hiyas! It's Amy from A Drop of Romeo. I'm pleased to tell you that A Country Christmas has been added to the site under the Love Triangle category. Here's your well deserved review:
If you enjoyed watching Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama, you should definitely read Mandy Hubbard's A Country Christmas. There is a somewhat similar plot line between the movie and the story, but they also have their differences. Like Reese's character, Halley left behind her small town life and made a successful business in the city, thus transforming herself into a stylish and sophisticated young woman. And to top off her new life in Seattle, Halley's engaged to the most eligible bachelor (he's rich and handsome, too!). But when Halley returns to her small town home of Prescott, Washington after six years, her picture perfect life in the city starts to lose it's appeal. All because of one certain cowboy she never truly got over and the former fairytale ending dangles infront of her. A Country Christmas is a shorter lengthed story, easily finished in one or two sittings (depending on your free time). But despite the shortness of the story, you can't help but fall in love with Shawn, Halley's hometown Prince Charming. It's faster paced concerning the changes you see in the characters, but it fits with the time frame in which everything happens. Mandy Hubbard's way of making it difficult, yet not so difficult at the same time, of choosing a side is almost as if you're making it yourself. Do you choose the safety net, even though you realize you may not be able to open yourself as much as you think and always wonder what if? Or do you swallow your pride and risk another broken heart for the one that got away? Sure, there are some typos here and there but overall the story was a joy to read. And if this was any indication to how her published (yep, I said PUBLISHED) pieces are, you'll be making a trip to the nearest bookstore and supporting a fellow Fictionpressee's success.
Xoxo,
Amy

Ah. You changed your penname so I didn't realize I had already read this story until the very end when I got a whole deja vu I've totally read this before when she was walking into the diner and saw Shawn hugging his cousin, and I knew it was his cousin before Halley even showed up to his house looking for him.
Cute cute. I probably said this before but I'm really glad that you decided to make Mark turn out to be a good person. I think it's better that she chose Shawn over Mark more because of Shawn than because Mark turned out to be an a-shole in disguise or something. Those stories never really show the depth of it. A person doesn't have to be an a-shole for you to leave them.
However, I'm still wondering if that sort of fairytale romance that exists between Halley & Shawn exists. I mean... is it really possible to have a life where nothing matters more than you and your significant other? I don't really know... I mean what about family and kids and how can you give up your career (or how could she expect Mark to give up his career? Make sacrifices, yes, but not give up) if that's ultimately what's going to support you and your family in the future?
Well anyway cute story. I still really like it a lot. :) Best of luck with your book!

Yay!
I'm really new to this site, but I was just nosing around people's favourites (as you do), and I came accross this little gem! I absolutely adore this story! It's got just the right amount of cute, sad, and love! I particularly enjoyed Mark's reaction to Halley moving out - very sweet, bless him! And the [very] cliche 'oh it's your cousin' moment at the end! Plus, I found the story [in particular the first few chapters!] very amusing and humorous!
I really enjoyed the pace of this story, and your style of writing! Plus I have to say I really loved the big comparisons between big city life, and life in the country. Oh, and the relationship between Halley and her father was really interesting, and well done! I found the way Halley suddenly moves away and stays angry with Shawn for six years to be really believable, and humane, and it was really lovely to see them get together in the end!
I also found the descriptions of the little village, and all of the 'country life' to be really, pretty cool, since personally I've never actually lived or worked on a farm...so I don't know overly much about them!
The final thing I think I have to say is that I really loved the epilogue, because it was lovely to see her support for Mark, and to see that she wasn't jealous of his new girl! Oh, and, of course, I loved the bit about the receipt for the ring just falling out! That was a pretty perfect bit!
So yeah, over all, this was a really awesome piece of work! And I look foward to reading more of your works when I have some time!
Wishing she had her own gorgeous farmer-boy,

congrats. you have successfully copied the plot of sweet home alabama. im sure it must have taken a lot of work to come up with new names for the characters. and oh! you moved them from new york to seattle. solid work. it was a nice touch making this mark guy the son of a senator.
