Hear hear! Love the metaphor and the attitude here...and the imagery is both effective and gorgeous. (I have a thing for oxidized metal. It has...character.)
When you're young, a lot of people try to tell you 'who to be.' And for most people, it's not even their parents who are the worst culprits...and anyway, that's partially the business of parents. The scary thing is, it's school administration...curiculum designed to 'improve social speaking skills?'
WTF. Oh, or 'sensitivity training activities.' (Yes, they actually use this language to each other, if not directly to the students.)
I'm plenty in touch with my emotions, thanks.
In other words, I can relate.

You said that you were jealous of my poetry, but now it is my turn to be jealous..those last two lines are incredibly insightful.

I love the idea here. SO many people think wrongly that they can change other people (like missionaries or adverts or politicians). It is really quite annoying. Let me be, let us be. Just find a way to communicate, to share, to SHOW me your ideas, not TELL me I am wrong! I will accept them or reject them not you, but will you reject me if I reject them? Are you that shallow? (not the author you, but a general you.)
