It's a very touching piece. Your asking us to reflect on this delicate matter is very...effective, and I must say I enjoyed reading this.

Damn girl. I am so proud of you for this! I didn't even notice that up there at all, but that doesn't matter, just damn.

I wish everyone felt like that, it would make the world a hell of a better place, but unfortunately, your brother is correct, your little genuis there.

There will always be some sort of judgement going on in this world, and its frustrating.

But, the positive point, is that just by reading your reviews, you can see there are people that wish for it to stop, and maybe someday it will.

And that day our friend in NY won't have to worry about it anymore.

It's been interesting to not only read the essay, but read the reviews and the responses to the reviews. Nice job in reminding us of the problems with descrimination and unjustified hatred...although it's a good thing that you're realistic as well, so you won't get too disappointed as you go through life.

Have fun, keep writing.

I'm in the middle of To Kill A Mochingbird, and I agree, I think I am pretty naive when it comes to things that go on in the world with racism. But i happen to also think that cultural differences are beautiful, and interesting, and i love my school for it's great diversity, and how most people seem to get by amiably with it. If someone wants to sink to the level of real discrimination of race, then that only shows how ignorant and sad they are.
Your 'essay' was really nice, and touching, everybody should get a chance to read it.

I know how you feel about racism. As much as we want to go away, it will always be there and has haunted humanity as a whole since the dawn of time. Of course we can say "we don't know any better", but the truth is that we DO know better, but we choose to ignore our capability to. You are not alone in this "fight" to end racism.

It's true...if only everyone could drop that first judgement, the world would be so much more wonderful.
"Haha! Your epidermis is showing!"
"Yeah? Well so's your stupidity!"

Well, I see this issue from two standpoints: first of all, I think sometimes the "hurt" inflicted by race discrimination is overstated. If some stranger can really hurt you that deeply with a few words, then you may have some serious self-esteem issues as it is.
On the other hand, racism sickens me; how anybody can be so closed-minded, stereotyping, pigheaded, discriminatory, and ignorant baffles the mind. I've always tried to be a fair-minded person, and when somebody comes along and says something like, "Stupid Muslims. They're all terrorists," it makes my blood boil. So yeah, I hate racism. And you're right, it'll always be there. But if society as a whole can better itself (fat chance), maybe we can learn to ignore those of us who choose to be ignorant (fat chance). There's always hope for a better world (fat... never mind).

That's really awesome. I wish everyone could read that, and understand it, and then -do- it! I'm half black, and half white, and most people would never guess that. Judging people by how they look is seriously one of the most incredibly stupid things you can do...if only more people knew that!

I absolutely agree with what you wrote. What you want, however, will be next to impossible to achieve. Because, you see, for every person like you &Katie, there is another who thinks the very opposite.

Good luck. And thank you for writing something we all know, but try to forget.
