Does the lightening symbolize cleansing? That's what I was thinking until the last stanza when you mention the rain. I'm still not so great with poems, I had to read this one twice. I don't understand: "That still exists for none to see,Perpetual; I cannot win." So maybe once the rain is gone, It never really cleansed anything, like trying to wash water-proof leather in water. Bad analogy on my part, perhaps.
