Wow.
This is really well conceived, I like the way you gave history and facts without making it boring, and still keeping the character's personality through everything. After the summary, the ending was kind of dilluted in the surprise-area, but it was still great. It's especially good because (and this is just the way I took it) Lin didn't tell anyone his name until he wouldn't be recognized and hunted down for it. Like he was doing this great thing for humanity, but he didn't want any credit, and he couldn't be part of the general populace until he was on level ground with the other people. Or something like that.
Great story - keep writing.
