You are such an Ignorant git. When you are gay it means a lot. I had fucking rocks thrown at me because I was out!, We want equality and we deseve that right! You clearly understand nothing and need to get over your fucking godcomplex!

"It just won’t grant you the privileges it grants state-recognized marriages. Big fucking deal."

You're a goddamn idiot, and it's obvious that you only have the ability to say "big fucking deal" to inequality because you're not in a position where gay marriage bans would affect you. Living with your partner and calling yourselves married is not the same as being able to visit your partner in the hospital; receiving spousal Medicare, disablity, Social Security, and countless other benefits; inheriting your spouse's estate if they were to die...

Check your privilege before you write something so self-righteous and condescending next time.

I have to say that I agree with The Furtive Oubliette on just about every single thing said.

Aside from that...

As for wanting the same legal rights.. Honestly, our "legal rights" aren't even something to be desired anymore. We're (meaning America's government and politicians) too wishy washy on everything, and too focused on trying to be politically correct, rather than getting to the real issues and solving them. (Sounds like a certain Presidential debate, huh?)

I say.. Forget everyone else's opinions if you don't like it. Good grief, live your life, and stop worrying about other people.

Well, I do have to say that this was both well written and had a good point. I personally don't care what people do. Gay Rights "Activists" (Fourteen year old girls who think they understand the entire universe) annoy me as much as feminists do. I may be female who prefers the same gender, but good god, if women aren't willing to sign up to be drafted, they don't deserve the same rights as men. Same with gay marriage, if the state doesn't recognize your marriage, who gives a shit? Mur, there is my two cents, okay, a quarter.

Cynically Yours,

Giving privelages to certain people based on sexual preference. That's what denying gays the special privelages is. "It just won’t grant you the privileges it grants state-recognized marriages. Big fucking deal." That's right, it's a Big fucking deal. No, really, it is.

You remind me of my dad... in a good way. You sound like my dad when it comes to debates like so, except with less F barrages.

Agreed. But wow - in a bad mood when you wrote this?

hilarious. I mean really, I laughed up a storm. I particularly enjoyed the allusion to Marxism: "So it's all good: keep 'em coming. From each according to his ability to each his own. Or something."

I agree one hundred percent with you. No one should be able to tell anyone what they're allowed to do. I read a quote once that said the government has no business in the bedrooms of a nation. I agree with that, too, wholeheartedly.
3/27/2006 c1 american views of liberty- what a joke
too true. though only the yanks and their extremist christianity could attempt to make such a massive deal out of something that should just be accepted as a modernday norm. civil partnerships have just been legalised here in the UK with barely an opponent in sight. so yeah, fuck what everyone else says, i think its a great idea - just not one to make a fuss about.

Good essay. I agree in some respects, but ValkyrieRavenfeather has a point. Also, part of the reason gays' want legal marriage rights has to do with medicare, tax breaks, visitation rights, and othe4r critical issues. Considering your political standing, however, the whole "fuck 'em all" attitude is reasonable. Overall, really good.

interesting point of view for sure. You did ignore some possibl arguments but I suppose that's ok. There is a difference between a church marriage and a "union" as you call it but "the Lovecraftian horror we call The State" denies both. Great separation of church and state no?

I sort of agree with what you're saying. Same-sex couples CAN get a ceremony without a legal marriage, but I think we deserve the same benefits that married heterosexual couples recieve.

As Matthew Shepard's death surely proves, it's not as easy to protect yourself as you're making it sound. I am lucky enough to never have been (physically) assaulted over my sexual orientation, but others aren't so lucky. I know a man who was nearly killed and is severely crippled after being beaten by four men wearing "What Would Jesus Do?" T-shirts. Also, we can't carry illegal firearms. We could be arrested. Unless we live in Missouri, anyway, and Missouri may have legal gun-carrying laws, but it still has anti-sodomy laws. We can be imprisoned for having sex in some states.

I agree with you, however, that the most important thing is that you and your partner believe yourselves to be married. I also appreciate your advice to ignore the people who diss homosexuality, even though it's very hard to do.

Yours is an interesting take on gay marriage-some of which I agree with, some of which I don't. Thank you, by the way, for your review on my recent essay. You have a unique style, though a bit radical for my tastes, but I'm happy I read it. Thank you for writing this. It was different.
