This does sort of raise a good point, but unfortunately it just isn't going to work. If the reason that the schools are getting rid of vending machines is that the junk food is bad for you then where do you think they stand on smoking. A great way of relieving stress is just hanging out with friends. Besides, i doubt your school are as much of Nazis as mine so don't complain. I suggest you don't write letters to senators that they will look at, have a good chuckle with their friends and family about, or throw out. Oh and by the way, while smoking may reduce risks of the things you mentioned, that is counterbalanced by the fact that it increases risks of other diseases. My grandfather was a smoker and lived with emphesyma (i'm not sure if that spelling is correct) and the last 20 or so years of his life were pretty shitty. My suggestion for you to relieve stress: get some friends or use your obvious talent for writing in your spare time.

Very convincing, but I'm afraid other older people, who smoke, might not find it so. They won't like it as a matter of fact. I found it highly amusing though. Your writing puts a smile on my face! I hope you will continue and I hope I can pick up some of your writing skills.

As an argument it is very persuasive, and I have heard mumblings of people wanting 'smoking pits' in the schools in my area, so maybe it's not so far-fetched. Some critisum: if you ever do send it then have a list of the sources you got the information from and be more spicifc about some of the 'non-addiction' policies you're talking about.
