A lot of potential. I'm a sucker for coherent explanations for magical phenomena, and I like your repetition-influenced world. The Henchman's Guild is very clever, a good turn to take the often-cliched genre of fantasy-cliche-bashing. Isn't it odd that stories mocking cliches mock them so uniformly that they grow dull themselves?

That's the reason I dislike Daria and the whole Theive's Guild. It's the same old cliche presented in the same way - with the additional layer of cliche brought in by the Dungeons-and-Dragons-style "what should I put in the Phobias box?"

The narrator's voice is strong, confident, and often witty, but too modern for me. Tharan is a great concept and a good character, but his dialogue makes him a one-note running joke. Not even the most bookish dolts in today's world talk in his needlessly prolix style. It would be far easier to swallow if Tharan were *sharp* - not just presented as a man who spends his long evenings reading the thesaurus.

I forget if I ever reviewed this, but I read it a long time ago and you still have not updated. Did you quit this story or something?

Ah the irony! The chapter title and the chapter is full of the "things that always happen" yet you end it nicely with two secrets that make this pair quite special. Ironic, indeed.

Aryn is so cool! In fantasy stories you really don't see much science being put to use (EVERYone uses magic to solve problems) so it's cool to see that he actually helped out by using a compass (that's what a direction finder is, right?). I liked hearing about that. once again, you are turning stereotypes upside down!

Daria is so funny, being afraid of everything like that. All of your characters have something unusual about them, and that's why I really like this story. Good job.

"I suppose there was an exhilarating element to the suspension of my higher brain function"

lol...a hero talking like that...

I think it was good that you made Daria discover her real identity, now she'll have someone to talk to. Anyway, I have some homework to do now, but I'll be back soon.

I loved the bit about Daria being afraid of heights, and the riding part. You're really good at altering the stereotypical view of characters.

I'm so sorry that I haven't been back sooner...I need to start making use of author alert or something...somehow I this story just slipped my mind.

Anyway, I'm still here, and I still really like it.
