Okay, so I have honestly never flamed anything in my life, but I just can't help it. This story is disgusting. I mean, the writing is fine in and of itself, but as far as characterization structure or plot it just crashes burns and dies. I have read the whole thing just waiting for it to get better, even after losing hope about halfway through, somewhere around the chapter with all the dead baby jokes. And it's not just that I'm repulsed by dead baby jokes so much as that they kind of served no purpose. I'm pretty sure you just wanted to put a bunch of dead baby jokes somewhere and figured that this would be as good a pace as any. As far as your characters, they are the most amoral unrealistic characters I've ever seen. And beyond that, because that kind of psychopathic behavior HAS to have been put there intentionally with no hope of change or growth or development, the relationship between the two main characters was extremely disappointing. They just went from being crazy friends to crazy friend who fuck and I don't even know exactly how it happened. They just like...decided to.
Overall, you probably aren't a bad writer in general, but I hated this story. A lot. I completely fail to understand the copious amounts of reviews claiming that it's the best thing they ever read. I read the entire thing and then felt like I'd just been trolled or something. Maybe there's something I'm missing, I don't know, but this didn't do it for me.
I haven't read your other stuff (And probably won't) so maybe it's more normal. Or maybe it's just as fucked. Either way, good luck with your future endeavors. Other people seem to like them, so I wish you the best.

This is the most fucked up thing I have ever fucking read. I need more. A fucking sequel or something. But then, the end is sort of charming. Side stories? Spin-offs? This story is pretty messed up. I like it. The characters remind me of the jackass metalheads who would sit at the back of the class.

I was surprised this story ended where it did. It seemed like there would be more to see. I had to double check to see the ‘complete’ at the top. I wonder why. There doesn’t seem to be any discernible climax. I can make sense of it as a character study: the last sentence gains a lot of significance once I put a little thought into it. They are caught in their little sadomasochistic game where the worse things get the more satisfied they are. They probably won’t stop until one of them dies.

I enjoyed this story a lot more than ‘Out of Luck’. In ‘Out of Luck’ the sadomasochistic elements were really underplayed, almost as if you were trying to pass off the story as a healthy model for life. But here you and your characters delight in the excess of pain and damage. ‘Homesick Abortions’ merits a lot of comparison with literary precedents in a way that the previous story didn’t. It reminds me of Euripedes’ the Bacchae, where the protagonist gets dismembered at the end of the play in a religious orgy – couldn’t we say that is what happens in the orgy in this story? It’s just one limb, the rest are implied to come later. It reminds me of Leonard Cohen’s song, ‘the Avalanche.’ He sings:

“You who wish to conquer pain

You must learn what makes me kind

The crumbs of love you offer me

Are the crumbs I’ve left behind”

The only difference I would point out is that in ‘Homesick Abortions’ there is no student/teacher relationship. They are each other’s teachers, each one pushing the other into further pain.

I guess I’m a little disappointed with the ending. I was hoping to see the plot taken to its conclusion. Whether that being dismemberment, or one of them stepping back because they can’t take it anymore. It’s like you’ve set up a game of chicken only to cut away before showing us who bails first or if they end up crashing in a burst of flaming death.

Anyways, cool story bro.

I found the abortion joke with the girl involved disgusting. It really actually offended me. I hope this story you've written isn't some sort of reflection on the way you look at things because it's fucked, seriously.
