Wow, I am so glad I'm completely oblivious to all of this drama (for lack of a better word) that goes on in the essay section, or anywhere else for that matter.

I've never realised how much effort people put in to putting others down. No, this isn't an attack on you, or any other parties mentioned in your essay.

I was just completely fascinated with it, although I do notice that this is about three or so years old now. I'm not even really sure why I'm commenting on it, I'll just put it down to how interesting I found it. I tried finding Sarasa's essay, but they've probably taken it down. Drat.

Alrighty, now that I've completely procrastinated my time away... I'll leave you alone.

This is a very good essay. I feel the truth in what you are saying.

Basically, about the whole affair, I believe that raptor was not exactly doing the best thing when he posted his story. He is not at all a bad person: he just didn't make the best decision he could have in the situation. Not the end of the world, by far. If someone had kindly reminded him of the rules, and he had politely moved his story, it would be then end. But no. This small thing had to ammount to gigantic proportions, where civilized manner was often at a loss to some individuals. Let's all just try and do the right thing next time, and be friends :) Okaie ?

I hope I can look at this as objectively as you hoped. As the first person to confront raptop7435 on his error, I may have a unique perspective. If you don't find it too tiring, I'm going to go through your essay step by step.

"Plagiarism is wrong."

Correct.

"But, what I find so interesting is that certain stories on fictionpress get blasted for using something as little as the same name in their title."

Here's where we part ways. It's not just the title. Technology, characters, and organizations are all taken from Star Wars. The author himself admitted this to me.

"Nobody on this website is making money."

Correct, but that is not a requirement for violation of copyright law.

"I don’t think people should waste valuable bandwidth in order to leave tons and tons of negative reviews for these people."

That is true. I think that my review was enough, personally. If he doesn't agree to the first objection, the rest will make no difference.

"This story is 49 total chapters, each one ranging from about 5-10 pages, of somebody’s blood, sweat, tears, and commitment to a dream. Whoever they are, they have written a very interesting story..."

This may be true. However, even a hard-work-filled copyright violation is still just that.

"Than again, this is America, and the phrase majority rules doesn’t mean much anymore…"

You didn't really need to put in a cheap shot at the government, did you?

Anyways, you then move on to discuss why the responses were wrong. I also agree here. You needn't call someone a name. If you have a difference of opinion which can't be remedied, leave it alone.

Honestly, my first efforts were only as an offer of help. While I did become ruder later (as seen in e-mails I exchanged with the author), it was only in response to increased rudeness on his end.

Either way, you made many valid points here. It isn't even at all likely he'll get in trouble. On my part, it was just a fair warning.

I read your stuff after I saw your review on my piece, and wow, I didn't that there was this much fighting or whatever on this site.

Damn asshole reviewers(especially Sarasa). I read Raptor's story, and just told him to post it on FanFiction.net, and that it's a fine piece of work

I remember these two people that reviewed one of my stories on Fanfiction.net, which were the only bad reviews I've ever gotten. All one said was "OMG this sucks", and the other said to refer to that review. I now have a new hate for them.

I read this part of the essay a little more carefully and I will admit that maybe I was too harsh. But I don't really care. I found it very childish when raptor posted a whole story about ceartain people at fictionpress.

I also think that you are a pompous ass. Your sitting here dissing other people calling them bad authors. I think that's very childish as well.

Yeah I did participate with everyone else in mocking raptor, but the kid has no logic and his philosophy is laughable. I think someone else is on a high horse here .

Call me what you will because I don't believe I was in the wrong at all and if you think so then good for you;)

I admit it, I was offensive to raptor. But the little twit left me a hate email after I kindly told him that his story should be placed on fanfiction.net. I still have all his emails, would you like to see them? He was very rude to me and very judgemental.

Let me be reported for harrassment, I really don't care. If anyone should be reported for harrassment, raptor should. Do you know he began emailing everyone who told him to put his fanfiction instead? I'm sure he was just as rude to them as he was to me.

He disrespected many people and the site and your are doing likewise.

I believe its agreement, unless you were trying to spell grievance, arrogance, Greene, variance, or Adriane, which are the five words MSWord spell-check came up with for "agreeance."

Technical errors aside, your essay had ground beneath it when you were asking people not to belittle an author, no matter how poorly written and/or inappropriately placed his or her story. Now that you've resorted to insulting people to attempt to get your point across, it's fallen flat on its face.

I still agree with your base point, but you sank to the level of the people you're pissed at to get it across.

'Tiefling – I would like to thank you.'You are most welcome.

'I was simply saying that you don’t need to be a fan of something to enjoy it, and since I’m not a fan of Star Wars, and was still able to enjoy it, that, to me, proves it isn’t totally FanFiction.'

Sorry, but it doesn't prove any such thing. It uses stuff from the Star Wars universe, therefore it's fanfiction. Raptor broke the rules and he knows it, and admitted it. He's not winning anyone over writing essay after essay complaining. In fact, his ranting is doing him more harm than good. I don't think your essay's likely to help either, though I appreciate that at least you tried to be civil.

Your whiness also amuses me, almost as much as the original arguments involved. Definitely parody-worthy.
6/21/2005 c1 Aella
And you call this helping "the war?"

Let me put it this way, if my English teacher saw this essay, she would break down and cry. You make no attempt at organization and talk down to the reader. You also should never use "I think this" or "I appreciate this" in an essay.

Don't critique spelling errors unless you have more of a person's writing. If it looks like a typing error, then it probably is. Look at you, you misspelled FictionPress repeatedly so don’t get all arrogant on us and make a big deal out of it.

Pointing out other people’s essays looks tacky, especially when they don’t mention you or Raptor7435 in the actual essay so I advise against it.
6/21/2005 c1 Mbwun
I certainly don't believe raptor#whatever deserved to be belittled like he was, but nonetheless, his Star Wars stories do not belong on this website.
