Anyway! I'm really interested in Donovan finding out about Ellie's home-life with Steve and all. I'm curious as to what he's going to do, you know... how far he'll go to protect her and such. It'll be so sweet. :)
As for Dylan, I like him, but... he's not for Ellie! But I like what his character can/will bring to the story... jealousy and drama! YAY! Hahah.

Oh! What I meant about making me wince when Steve was beating Ellie up was that, hmm I don't know. It just seemed strange to me that there really are heartless people like that who can go all crazy on you when they are drunk. And it made me cringe to think about the pain Ellie went through during the beating and also the day after.
As for advice, I really don't have anything to say right now. I think you guys are doing pretty great. The only thing that kinda confused me was, I think, in your first chapter you said Ellie never really talked to anyone and you never introduced any friend type characters except for Dylan. But he seemed to be someone who was just added to Ellie's life. I don't know. Just in the third chapter you bring up Maria unexpectedly saying she was Ellie's best friend and that's who Ellie hangs out with while in the first 2 chapters you didn't mention her even hanging with anyone during lunchtime. So yup that's about it. And don't worry, I am a hopeless romantic too! So take care and keeping writing...I wonder if Dylan is the nice guy that he seems to be or is it just a facade or something?

Aww! Poor Ellie. She has a hard life. Well, in everything that's bad, there's some good. Right? I hope so. Well, this chapter was ok, i guess. Can't really say.
