Well that chapter was quite morbid but it was necessary and it leaves room for lots to happen which is great!
I like this idea of the different creatures that hunt each other and what not. Clever idea.

It was depressing. Definitely.
I don't want them to kill her, and I don't want Johnny and his friends concocting some plan to make Leila trust them and then kill her. Stab her back. She doesn't deserve that.

Reminded me of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn... I guess 'cause I'm studying it now. But it's nice, it's not your everyday, cliche family, is it? That caught my interest and I kept on reading. I like their relationship, it's something.

I'm definetly liking this story more and more with each update. It has a nice mix of foreshadowing without revealing too much of what's to come... and I'm intrigued by both Johnny and Leila. What EXACTLY is this Johnny character?
"You see kids around here who are so bitter over things like that, it sometimes ruins their lives."
That's a good line and very true.
While I'm complimenting, your writing style has improved quite a bit since the last thing I've been reading by you (HPMN). Your character development flows easier and everything just fits. It's wonderful! I'm intrigued by this story.

Hey, great start! I like the detail of everything, you're certainly creating great imagery for the scene. The creatures sound interesting and I like how you've distinguished them by their eye colour.
You did however call the one with yellow eyes Silver-Eyes in the last little bit.
