I'm interested in where you plan on taking this. The only thing is that this story seems to be really outweighed by dialogue. I'd really like it if you would put some more detail into the story, so that I understand what the characters look like, and also so that I can get a better idea of the area of California where she's staying.
I think longer chapters would be awesome, but that's up to you. And to me, it seems like these first two chapters couldn't be combined since they're so short, but I'm not complaining. This is your story and I still will read it whether you take my advice to heart or not. And I don't say this about many stories, either. I'm interested in another chapter. Maybe update soonish? That would be really wonderful.
