I don't remember how many times I've read this story because I just love it and I keep re-reading it :-) The review from Jess is well, a review from me, back when I didn't have an account on this website :D

This is just too adorable :-) I love how Katie defends Gavin...and that was a very creative use of his tattoo :D

While the three words were important, her greater and more meaningful declaration of love was the way that she openly, unreservedly, and forcefully stood up to her family and defended Gavin. They are both class acts.

I've read all of the related oneshots (including James ahahaha funny funny crazy boy) and LOVE YOU SO MUCH for these. Teddy bear Gavin~ XD I have a friend who's very much like him, with less swearing, more bite, and is a girl, but just as much teddy bear-ish tendencies. haha.
Of the whole series though, this one seemed quite a bit more preachy (what with her giving a whole "you should be ashamed of yourselves" speech to her family no less), and weirdly, a bit more unrealistic because of it (not b/c of the strangely different characters getting together), to me.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the whole set of oneshots, and the way you characterized each person, but in this one, the whole family seems lumped together in a group of "judgmental conservative bigots" type, and the girl is the only one who seems to have escaped that way of thought. (Did you have personal experience with this or something?)
I would think that in a family that large and close, their values wouldn't end up differing so much, inclusive of judgment by sight, or at least with her core family unit. It ends up with the sense of the cute couple versus an entire fifty something number of people all against them, with a sort of exception of one mother. I'd think that the chances of all fifty odd people being entirely against them would be rather slim, and would be more realistic if a few of them had come up to show at least just reserved judgment until they had talked to the boy, if they truly knew the girl that well. There's a difference between interrogation and interrogation with preconceived notions already in place.
I thought having a whole large family enter the scene would introduce more personalities than just.. "who is HE, you slut" kind of opinions. I would probably believe it more if there was a slightly larger division between people being instantly biased and those waiting to know who the guy is, and if James hadn't instantly believed the prissy aunt over his own sister without waiting for an explanation.
But then again, this might all just be me not wanting to see an entire family reject someone on the basis of their appearance, and having never seen an entire group this bad about it. Really childish and shallow, no?
Then further, after her speech, I don't think everyone would then instantly turn to her side in understanding and support. Particularly the some of the oldies and their closely guarded offspring would still wish she had better taste in guys and possibly cause more noise than "the rest of the visit goes without a hitch" and "Most of my family apologizes". Particularly after she boldly defies her statement of a rather pure relationship by kissing him for so long in front of everyone and their moms, literally. Aunt Lucy might've tried to grasp at straws to save her dignity and pride some before finding some other excuse to give in to "tolerating" him.
Random continuity issue: Gavin sorta teleported downstairs from Katie's room while Katie and mother were talking? I didn't think he'd want to venture down there on his own after the terrors he'd just gone through eh? Even though it sets it up for her jumping in to save him and then giving a preach- I mean, speech. _o I see what you did thar.
