"Emerson insults to the meaning of individuality"

I agree completely, and this is weird because I was just made write a paper on the best Transcendentalism writer, in my opinion. Most of my classmates chose Emerson, simply because he's the most known name on google. I chose Walt Whitman, and I was comparing them. Whitman accepted murders, rapists, the deformed and the despised(not agreeing or disagreeing), but when reading certain parts of Emerson's work, it's almost contradicting or ironic.

He says those who don't follow in a group are the superior, but wouldn't that be classifying 'those who don't follow' as a group itself? And him trying to get them to follow in that group.. it's ridiculous.
