I really enjoyed this. Getting back into any type of community can be stressful and nerve-wracking, and you portrayed that nervousness nicely. Plus, Gardner's prayer was SO sweet and thoughtful. Great chapter!

I love that you're making the background of the story so solid. It breaks your heart to read that Gemma can only have small portions to sacrifice the bulk of her food for her children, something a mother would truly do. Gemma is certainly doing all she can for her family, and I'm glad her church family is looking after her! I also loved the introduction to Connor :)

I'm so glad that she's able to find comfort in the Bible, instead of buying things or turning to vice. And that lunch sounded delish! I want some!

I'm looking forward to more! As always, chica!

I like it! A lot. It's the perfect recipe for future spiritual revelations and just a good feeling all over. I'm excited to see where this story goes!

I really like this story so far it seems like its going to be very good but i was wondering what period it is set in, if any? At first i thought it was set in a older time but this last chapter contained things like milk shakes, soda, shampoo and more modern features so im a little confused.

I loved how this chapter tied the history into this story. So many families had to wait their turn in the bread line, and I loved seeing her apprehension! The kids are soo cute, and I can't wait to see how they manage!

Hi! I'm so glad to see you're back with another one!

Goodness. Not only is she living during the Great Depression but her personal situation is depressing, too. Poor Gemma.

And what a blow that was to be forced out of the home you made with your husband and family.

I can't wait for more of this! Great job, chica!

Wow, that sure was a sad surprise! How depressing...surely love has to be down the road for Gemma! But wow, the loss of her husband and losing her farm and having to manage her two young children...wow thats sad!

You are doing an excellent job though! I can't wait to keep reading your story!

I was so excited to see that you have a new story!

And so far, I'm addicted. Gemma already seems clever.

This is bound to be fabulous just like all of your other works! I'll read on!

Such an excellent opening chapter! I love the kids and the dialect you write into Garnet's speech, I can hear her childlike gibberish in my mind while I read her talking. So terrible to be in Gemma's shoes right now! I hope they'll be ok. It seems as though Gemma has certainly been through an awful lot lately, hopefully something good will happen soon!

First of all, I absolutely love this, precious! I am half tempted to name my first born Gemma just at the thought of having a reasonable reason to nickname her precious! Or to give her the chance of having a future boyfriend call her precious! Love this cute little scene giving us a glimpse into these two characters.

Also, excellent work on the summary, I think it's PERFECT!
