I wonder how much of this is based on experience. I just recently came back from a long trip to Europe and can relate to the whole yearning to be with someone from the other side of the world. its not a dream! it can happen.
That's why I appreciate this story so much. It takes me back to the magical moments and experiences of Europe. I love the way you wrote this. Gives me hope P

This is absolutely beautiful. It's the kind of story that makes the reader feel...fulfilled; it inspires the same kind of awe The Alchemist or The Unbearable Lightness of Being does (or at least it did for me; I'm sure this kind of a comment might get me thrown out of an English classroom).
I hope you see this, I noticed you haven't been on FictionPress in a while, but I seriously hope you see this. I can't even think of other words besides beautiful, perhaps awe-inspiring? But I've already said that too.
It's stories like this that make searching through archives here worthwhile. This is, hands down, my favorite story on FictionPress, and I've read a lot of good stories here.

Rosie Thinks: I really love the setting for this story: we start off in Corfu, then go to Paris, Sydney and all the way back to Corfu again. It sets it apart from the many, many stories that are set in America. Maybe I'm such a sucker for this story because I love travelling and seeing the rest of the world, and that is exactly what Helga and Kit are doing. At the beginning, they're drifting around Europe, both wanting a break from their lives back in Canada or Australia when they met each other on a deserted beach in Corfu.
Each chapter is set a few years apart, in different places each time. You can argue that this story is completely improbable, and you could be right. However I think it worked and it didn't seem overly farfetched to me - I saw a friend I haven't talked to in years in Venice of all places, when we both live in Sydney. It can be an incredibly small world. And I like the Aristophanes twist in it, about how two people can be two halves of a whole.
judevanderhall truly has a way with words. There isn't too much description, but I like the whimsical quality that her writing gives the story. There are no long info dumps, just straight into the characters and showing rather than telling. There are a few mistakes, but overall it is very well written and the punctuation is spot on. One line that truly struck me was: 'For what is love without friendship? And what is love and friendship without longing?' How beautiful is that?! It also sums up the story really well. The two have an incredible bond but real life seems to get in the way every time.
It's not very long, only 11k words and four chapters long. However, a story spanning eight years was told in a way that wasn't in the least bit rushed or hurried. It was beautiful and by the end of the third chapter, I wanted to cry for these two. Enthralling, heartbreaking, deep - I could go on forever, but I strongly recommend this story!

there's something a little bit nostalgic, a little bit out-of-this-world about this story. and i mean that in the best possible way. after reading this, i feel perhaps despite- or because of- the mess and confusion of this world, we can still dream.

I love it! I gasped out loud when I first read about Aristophanes and the Symposium. My class read about the love discussion so I was in awe when I realized where this was going. I absolutely adored it.

I just wanted to let you know that I've had this story on my favorites list for over a year, and I relish coming back and reading it every once in a while, when I get the chance. This is one of the few stories on the internet that makes me grin like a loon, almost cry, laugh loudly, feel intimately for each of the characters, and all in only 4 chapters! Congratulations on writing such a fantastic piece, and thank you for posting it! :)
