Great, this is a lot of help. I hadn't thought of Googling lines from my story, although I google my name from time to time just to see if anyone I don't know is talking about me.

This is amazingly helpful and hilarious, thank you!

O_O

I'm scared now...

Though, like someone else mentioned, I do not view my stories as my children but rather a part of me. I'm going to go put warnings on my stuff now.

I'm not sure any of this is real.
Given the amount of written material on line or in libraries or slush piles or on disks, it's rather unlikely any plot can be termed original. Many characters are archetypes, and are uncopyrightable. It's only when we get to the language that there might be something to worry about, but I know I've read the same words in works by different authors at different times(like fifty years apart).
In any case, parallel inspiration is more likely than deliberate plagiarism.

You really scared the daylights out of me with this essay. But perhaps that was the intent. =D

I love the title, and the beginning.

Plagiarizing is so dumb, right? Personally I would hate it if someone plagiarized or infringed my work. Although I don't view my work as my children, they are part of me, and I would feel angry, disgusted, and upset if someone were to plagiarize my work, like trying to make another, lesser copy of part of myself. I'd view it as a mean-spirited clone.

Have you ever had your work been plagiarized?

Love :)

This was very helpful! Thumbs up to you for gathering these ideas to stop plagerists. I've had my work stolen in the past and when I've done some of these things afterwards, it helped people know that copying it wasn't tolerated. Great job :)

This is really helpful and I plan to follow these steps.

I have read this and now I am fearful of 'the Plagiarist.' It's like a monster that hides in the closet. Thanks for this very important and insightful information. I'm a little paranoid of posting anything on here anymore, lol, :D

Death indeed! I never actually thought people would stoop so low as to copy of a fellow author! (Or even if said person who is doing this is an author?)

Nice! I will head back and put warnigns on all my materials.
