“Why thank you my kind sir.” I said smiling at him. ~~You need to add commas around interjections, direct address and clauses. Commas ((Or exclamation points or question marks))are used before closing quotation marks when what was said is immediately followed by who said it. You need to watch your verb tenses. Here, it's stopped, not stop.



More correctly, the sample reads like this: “Yeah, that is good to hear. Come, we might be late for class, too, if we don’t hurry up,” he said laughing, stopping in front of a door. He opened it for me and let me in first.

“Why, thank you, my kind sir,” I said smiling at him.
