This is interesting. I'm not familiar with Dear John, so I don't understand the pun you mentioned in the tag line. I love the use of shortened sentences to create a sort of curt motion through the peice. Just so you know, I think that the comma in the last sentence ("...shame, by marrying you.") is unnecessary.
