I really like this a lot. Probably one of my favorites out of the things you've written.

I like the separation, it adds a lot to the piece.

And obviously, I'm a fan of metaphors.

My favorite metaphor though:

"I was a nuclear winter / I was a dying sun."

Very vivid.
