The word beautiful comes to mind when assessing this story. I particularly like how 'matter-of-fact' the tone feels and how you allow the reader to make their own character judgments without directly saying that Michael is fickle or that Evelyn is mentally ill. A good author knows how to 'show' without 'telling' and this piece is a great example of that.
