I very much enjoyed this story-don't tell anyone but I think I've read it like three times. I love Cale's quaint sailor lingo and the general is super adorable. I just want to see his house. I feel like it would be like seeing Darcy's house in "Pride and Prejudice"-like he would only truly be himself there. Yeah, a bit obsessed...I feel like I should go back and review every chapter...maybe if I read it a fourth time, lol. Thank you so much for posting this. I've read some of the previous stories you've posted and I think your plotting has really improved-war on such a grand scale is pretty intimidating and you've handled it quite well. And your characters, as always, are obsession-worthily awesome. If that's a acceptable descriptor.

Ahhh man. I'm back for a re-read and the General's manner of speaking never fails to make me laugh. : )

Hey there! I'm Rosie from a website called A Drop of Romeo and I'm happy to say that your story has been added to our archive, under the category of slash! Here's your review:
Rosie Thinks: One of the most amazing things I found about this story (other than the plot, of course) was the world-building. IceraMyst has created a three-dimensional world that is completely different from many others I've read about and is probably one of the best examples of world-building on fictionpress. An added bonus is that there were no big information dumps at the beginning. The world and its workings was introduced slowly and skilfully but by the end, I had a thorough knowledge of it.
The summary is absolutely perfect and hooked me from the start. Calentine is Paraz's 'focus', making his magic more powerful and making him fall in love and dedicate himself to Calentine. However, not only is Calentine a sailor and Paraz the General Superior and Duke, but Calentine is only a human while Paraz belongs to the elite Dzali. Since they can't be separated now, Calentine is dragged into the world of the ruling Dzali and to the forefront of the war.
Admittedly, the relationship between Calentine and Paraz moved slowly, but the main focus of this story is the fantasy side of it. I didn't mind the progress of their relationship though, as it felt very natural. Plus, the plot itself was fast-moving and utterly enthralling. At the beginning, I didn't particularly like Paraz, since he was a bit one dimensional, but as the story progressed he was developed extremely well and by the end, I loved him. Apart from that, all the characters are incredibly individual and well developed, and even the ones you don't particularly like are three-dimensional and real.
Calentine was a great main character, surprisingly intelligent for a lowly sailor and humble. I loved IceraMyst's writing style, since it was very well detailed yet also had smart and appropriate dialogue. It isn't completely wrapped up at the end, but there is a sequel that is just as amazing and updated fairly regularly. So if anyone out there wants an extremely well-written epic fantasy story, I highly recommend this one!

Just reread this.
I forgot how adorable and tooth achingly sweet it is. Calentine is and will always be one of my favorite characters from a fictional story ever.
Paraz. Paraz makes my toes curl and my lips go in such a wide smile I think they might split. I wish I'll meet a guy that perfect one day. So cute. :)
Now I remember why I was so obsessed with this.

I adore your writing style. The characters are very real to me (though I do confuse some of the officers and generals from time to time). And I like how make a very serious narration suddenly turn comic. It killed me when the captains offered free rum to the victorious army and nobody reacted, but then they were very happy to hear they get as many olives as they want, too.
And Cale's attitude is very entertaining as well (and I often found myself in full agreement with his thoughts on what was happening).

I was kind of wary of reading this; I hadn't been able to really get into "Intrigue at the Crowned Jewel" for various reasons. But I read this anyways and OH MY GOD I AM SO GLAD I DID. I loved every word of this! I loved the fantasy feel of this and how just because Asotegi and Cal are essentially married it doesn't mean they magically are super comfortable and I loved learning about Dzali culture and I loved all of the little touches about Cal and his family and I loved how adorable and romantic and just a little obsessive Asotegi was with Cal and how the plot didn't suddenly dissapear after the romance really got started and and and. Seriously you did everything right with this. I cannot wait until your next update for the Corsair's Crown!

ivee just finished this story and i can't tell you enough how much i enjoyed every bit of it! i especially loved how gradually over time Calentine's platonic feelings towards Asotegi developed into romantic ones and it wasnt misplaced, but rather well thought out. The only problem i had was that i can't seem to tell who's the top and who's the bottom between them. And that kind of thing is very important to me. so please let us know as soon as you can! it's killing me!

"I am going to talk to him, I promise to myself with every scuff of the staff in the sand. I will tell him—that he is more than just not-bad-looking—that I want to be there when he wakes up—that I don't mind his touch after all. That I've been wishing I had done something after his victory, kissed him, maybe. The heat flares on my face, but the thought won't go away. It is in all the stories, the hero gets a kiss from, well, I'm hardly a princess, but if that's what he wants... assuming that's what he wants." : that was my favorite part in the book. read it countless times. i think that's the most Calentine has ever said regarding his feelings towards Asotegi and for once i began to believe that he might actually care for him some portion of how much Asotegi seems to care for him. Made me feel really hopeful.
