Ouch, those bits of shrapnel sounded painful. No wonder Ayn was kicking himself.
The emotions of Xi were powerful as she lay there. She is a strong one who does not want to cry and does not want others to shed tears for her either. Xi's urge to tuck Piqa's hair behind his ears was amusing; right in the middle of the operation for all the pain she is in!
I am looking forward to seeing more of the two of them together in a situation not focused on getting Xi back into one piece.

There was a lot of text in this chapter but the train of thought was well done and powerful. It carried Ayn's pain and frustration at being treated like nothing; his sense of being trapped, and the things he could do to try and forget the cage around him.
The sound of the pit was blood chilling. Oooh. A brutal way to weed out the weak. "She has led and I have followed" came across to me as a line holding love in it. Love lingering just beyond reach for Ayn.

The little bit about braids and beads was interesting and added to the dimension of the world, and gave Ayn some character appearance. Ayn seems as though he wants to beads more then he enjoys killing; for the sake of how they look. A curious pride.
The color of one's hair designates who they are to be as they grow up? I find that interesting, as well as the little play with Tools and Users you have going. Clever and fun.
Ayn's little thought about the colors of the Users reminding him of waste was quite amusing. And his intriguing.
Looking forward to more, and to the play between both men over the lone woman unless they can agree to share.

Swords, Shields, and Spears. Something about it rings nicely. I liked how you gave me insight on how the three interact with Zim's entrance, placing him as being friendly with the Shields.
As always, the science fiction setting shone through with Ayn sitting in the repair bay thinking about plates for the muTT.
The relationship between Ayn and Xi is Sword and Shield indeed. Ayn's thoughts are all about protection while Xi is more offensive. Zim is spearing in his speech; right to the point and kind of blunI like how you have wound their personalities into their roles in the story.
I pronounce Xi "Zi" probably because it sounds kind of oriental. And Ayn for me is "Ayin".

A nice way to hurl me into the story with the immediate mention of blood whipping into Ayn's mouth.
The scene with the "serviceable" vehicle gives me a good idea of how science fiction this will be. The wrestling with the MuTT (nice abbreviation; made me chuckle) had good tensity to it, and a certain amount of laughable text in it with Xi cursing and snapping through the Nearul-link.
I am looking forward to digging into the chapter and getting a bigger view of the big picture.

That's actually quite ingenious... the farther you get from a location the slower your heart beats... I might need to borrow that idea!
I wanna hug Fletcher now, but I really feel bad about the Users essentially shutting him down. :( He became likable in the last few chapters, so great job changing my mind!

First of all this chapter is playing right into the plot of my superhero/JAT crossover, so nice job! I guess great authors do think alike! :)
Xi needs a hug... doesn't she, because I hate seeing her cry! No girls should ever cry!
Anyway, it stinks that Flecther can't leave his home... or really do much else rather than get them off Lube, but it still works out well.
I'm enjoying the story and this chapter made me realize why! :) Great job!

Still, I'm crying from this story... Ayn's words broke me "I can't even protect myself, let alone my sword" and "A shield has to be the strong one, even with cracks in the shield."

Oh, the feels! :O
Gosh if there's anything more than math I hate... it's this fricking love triangle! (Pardon my language) This is driving me crazy! Still, I love Piqa's character and I can empathize with him because for some people, when you're falling apart all you can think of is making sure others are okay.
And just when I think they have enough problems, then the statistics come in (dumb math always ruining everything...) and Piqa could be in real danger unless our two injured lovebirds can pull together a miracle. I need to know what happens!
Amazing chapter my friend, and I think my favorite line is a belief I share with Ayn. "I just can't separate it from my heart"

Ohhhhhhh boooyyyyyyyyy! (Fans self)
Well, this love triangle is heating up! I'm not sure I'm a total fan of Ayn erm... sleeping with Piqa as he's trying to figure out where he stands with Xi. Whether you have those relations for a baby, love, or for fun... at least restrict it to one person!
Still, the chapter was very good, and I liked how you lightened the mood with some jokes. While I'm not much of a fan of crude jokes, they did make things a bit less awkward. :)
Well, I can't wait for more love triangle awkwardness! Keep it up!

Having Piqa kiss Ayn was unexpected, but I've learned from you that unexpectedness is good... I can't wait for the next chapter, because I sense things are about to heat up and get crazy!

Wow... once again the imagery and word choice are perfect... and I can see everything in my mind. Argh... I will never be able to do a button press test again without seeing this chapter.
Everything else aside, I do like the idea that Fletcher could be a tool, because he doesn't seem like a User to me.
I also liked the description of Piqa's wound. I will be using your word choice for some of my stories so thanks for that!

Okay... I went from mortified to wanting to punch Flecther in the face, although I'm still quite mortified.
The word choice and imagery (never thought I'd regret that) was perfect... my regret is I see everything in my mind's eye! :O
And yes, the cleaning stations are a judgment free think zone... I think my best thoughts in there :)

Awwwwwww...
Eagles, all the emotion is driving me crazy! :O The scenes with Xi scrubbing Ayn down were perfectly sweet, and I too was also surprised at how gentle she was with him.
But having them avoid their romance and having Ayn feel like he "took two steps forward and one back" plummeted me right back down, to the point I was screaming at my computer.
Then they hugged and kissed and Ahhh! :) "Nobody else I would ever want for a partner, but you." That whole scene was perfectly written, except for Ayn's rational mind telling him he needed to go :/
I'm happy my emotional roller coaster ended on a high point, great job as always!
