It's sad how Braden views himself so negatively when Jase is so crazy in love with him. Was he always self-loathing or did it really start with Shiloh and worsen over the years?
I had more to say but since I took so long to review (because life got in the way), I already forgot what I wanted to comment on...
Oh well. Thanks for the chapter!

I have really missed this story! But as long as you promise to someday complete it I don't mind waiting a long time for chapters because it's definitely worth the wait! I loved this chapter! Jase, as usual, was being so sweet. I really hope that Brendan will someday be able to accept his flaws and stop being so self-conscious. Good luck with your classes! I'm waiting patiently for the next chapter!

I was so so happy to see that you'd updated!
It's such a wonderful and sweet chapter. I totally empathise with Braden's scrutinising of himself.
And the end few paragraphs...woof. Hot stuff. Excellent writing, as ever!

hullo. so i'm finally glad to get back to this. i'm starting again from chapter 31 because i cheated somewhere in the middle and read 2 chapters in the past month, while i was procrastinating.
so i've been thinking about why the hell i'm still reading after 200,000 words (oh hurrah, here i go again) and i'm beginning to think now that if this wasn't first person, i probably wouldn't have made it this far. it's just that i start reading a chapter and then i look up and realize, hey, i read 5,000 words in this character's voice and i honestly liked it.
as for chapter 31, just very personally speaking, i like that braden and jase bring up the point of everything being forgotten. it's a pet peeve of mine, when people get so fucking idealistic about things, as if any of us even matter in the long run, but i like that these two acknowledge this little element. :D
in fact, if we're trying to parse out reasons for reading this far, then i'd say that thematically, this story holds up pretty well. you've built characters who can have these huge conversations without seeming out of character.
as for those examples i said i'd give, i think chapter 32 is a good enough instance. when braden calls jase, there are three lines of dialogue where you use urges, assures and chides. again, i think it works either way. in isolated instances, it seems a bit cumbersome but overall, i hardly notice it.
it's worth pointing out that their conversation a little ways down about owing Irene something is full of lovely speech-tags that skate right past notice.
just thought i'd point it out :)
in general though, i know you said that you wanted to depict a healthy relationship, but it's also worth mentioning that braden's journey as a character is punctuated by so many instances of just incredibly personal and harrowing insecurity. and even though, i'm a crazy confident person in the way that only clueless people with sheltered lives can be, i still identify with those. but i still know there are lots of people who can't keep those thoughts at bay and whose circumstances just don't allow them that luxury, and braden's journey is so amazing. so crazy important because here's this guy, so scarily insecure and i can read this and say: here's the solution. but it's something else entirely to dedicate so many words to showing that journey in a way that could mean so much to someone who was in an even marginally worse situation than me.
i've said before that this story is very brave, and that braden is even braver. there are lots of instances where this story has seemed really personal - kinda unavoidable, duh. and i think i ought to say it again, that braden's thoughts, complicated as they are, are so important and i don't want to presume too much and say they come from someplace very personal but if they do, then this story is really very brave. and i'm incredibly glad that you wrote it.
as for that sex scene, d'aw. :D that was just so sweet. i think that one of the reasons i have so much fun with this story is because it's so different from my own, so the way sex means something so amazing to these characters while my own are just fucking around just tickles me.
oof, okay. i'm gonna stop at the end of chapter 32.
lemme know if you'd like my thoughts on anything specific. i'd be happy to re-read. until then, my exams finally end tomorrow and before i start playing borderlands and just forget my name or what day it is, i am super excited to catch up to Chapter 35 and give you my thoughts.
cheers.

yay at Jace being kind of a dick but still a sweetheart, and the whole uncle cheating thing being resolved. I knew he hadn't!
The yolo thing was hilarious and I'm slightly worried because Braden sounds a little too much like me there, except I don't have a Jace.
oh wait, in one of these chapters, there's a bit that nearly made me die. Braden's bonding with Riley and describes a small furry panda rolling around or something and gaaahhhhh I really really want one now. It was the cutest thing I've ever read. Braden's adorable.
Sorry if you got all exccited for loads of reviews and then they're all me, but hey ho, I had to appreciate :)

Again, love love the ligthhearted banter between them in this chapter. The bit where he's pinching Jace etc and all the rest of it had me grinning like a fool.
Love the whole Riley, rally shows Braden's growing maturity and strength in himself.
The end was awesome. Love how Braden sees Jace as 'calm and open' when in reality Jace is probably bricking it a bit because he knows it'll be a big deal for Braden, and himself of course , and he's clearly felt it for a while and been suppressing the urge to say it, eg at the beginning of the chapter. Jace has clearly made an effort to stay relaxed to not freak out Braden even more, especially the 'probably' at the end when clearly there's no probably about it. Love the contrast of oblivious Lizzie when we all know this is such a pivotal moment ha.

Ok this is my favourite.
These three chapters that kinda span one day are awesome. They have absolutely everything in there.
And Braden, when he gets stuff done, he gets stuff DONE. He reconciles with Riley, which is AWESOME, I loved it. Again, I agree with Riley over Braden, so I'm glad he's taking steps to face his reality.
And the evil writer strikes again with Jace/Braden long distance bahaahhaa. I love it. oof I'm looking forward to all the possible scenarios that could occur with this. Although I have a feeling that when they were in the bedroom next chapter, Jace pauses twice. The first time I reckon was him stopping himself from saying I love you, and the second maybe perhaps he had the urge to ask Braden to move with him to Berkely or something. I reckon they'll do that eventually, but a bit of long distance longing would be fun too.
And I looove the way that Braden unflinchingly suggests putting up his video because Jace was upset and he wanted to help him. Never mind before that he was adamant it wouldn't go up etc. He completely didn't think of his own fears in his haste to allay Jace's.

I just absolutely love Braden's character progression. I think I'm more of a jace in a lot of ways, so I don't necessarily always agree with Braden, but the great thing is I can always see where he's coming from, and even 30 chapters in, the character improvement is great. ie the way he was reluctant to join in the birthday celebrations, but then decided to do it anyway.

OK so I realised I hadn't reviewed in a while, even though I've pobably read each chapter a billion times, so it may be slightly annoying, but I'll do a quick review for each chapter.
Loved this one. My two favourite things are when Jace and Braden fight (mwahaha) and when they're having light teasing random conversations. I mena those two things are a little contradictory so there must be something wrong with me, but all the blankets and the books etc were very cute. aww.
