This is excruciatingly sad. You really do a wonderful job of conveying the unconcerned attitudes of the staff; although not all of them are consciously or deliberately malicious, their compounded indifference is catastrophic for this poor woman. It would be easy to demonise or make villains of the staff, but they are not... it is much more comment on care homes generally and attitudes towards older people that suffuse society more broadly speaking.
It really is very uncomfortable reading; not least because it is so upsetting, but because it is rather close to the bone. Like the woman in the story (and unfortunately many older people in care homes), there is no respite from the desperation in this story, and certainly no happy ending.
Really powerful piece.

Very good but also very sad. I like how we never learn her first name. Nice job!

That was so sad. I'll have to make sure I do more volunteer work at nursing homes.
