This chapter was a blast!
Things did turn from a comradery-fueled reunion to an explosive conflict instantly upon the realization of Anna's true identity. I think both reactions were full of the proper intensity and starkness though. Lol. It's a good thing Anna's well being is still at stake or Clint just might have pulled that gun. ;) And Hawke's flabbergasted, reeling reaction was perfect. I think his mind was appropriately blown. Lol.
I also loved how you revealed more of Hawke's backstory through the reminiscence of two old soldiers/friends who forged a bond of brotherhood in their younger days. And speaking of younger, I really like how Hawke's meeting with Clint served as a mirror reflection of sorts, illustrating very keenly the effects of time that have passed over Hawke thanks to his supernatural nature. Nicely done.
Regardless of how Clint obtained his position, having a prominent, influential government official with knowledge of and connections to the supernatural world can only benefit the Alliance. I only hope Clint takes Hawke's warning to heart and trusts no one amongst his colleagues and peers.
Now all Hawke has to do is suppress those distracting feelings and bulging urges that his goddaughter has inadvertently brought into his life and snatch her away from her own duty-bound obligations. Should be easy breezey. ;)

Great chapter. Lots of background insight into Hawke's history and wow, I did not see that revelation coming about Anna being his goddaughter. I have no doubt that is going to cause a few hiccups in their relationship for a while.

I liked this chapter. It provided us readers with a lot of background for both Anna and Hawke. However it raises up even more questions as to what they are both hiding and why does Anna seem to recognize Hawke? I look forward to reading more as soon as I get my next story alert. - Shelley

Fantastic chapter!
Hawke's introspection as he entered the hotel room was very well done and offered a telling look into his own unique perspective. His developing personality and his military background are proving him to be dutiful, but this bit of layered insight shows that he's looking/hoping for more to life than what he's experienced thus far.
And the disarming strip tease was perfect. Neither one was freaked out or scared off by the small arsenals they each toted. Lol. It's obvious that neither one is a stranger to trouble, or prone to running from it either. ;) Clever use of tattoos also. Anna's recognition of Hawke's special forces tat was telling of her background too.
Speaking of trouble, that double-crossing ex-partner Gary Saunders is casting some bad vibes already. No corpse means no proof of death, and what better cover is there for a scheming baddie than to be presumed dead and done with?
That one night stand was as sultry as summer time in the South. ;) And the rose/pistol ending was a true sign that kindred souls have crossed paths. That was a really great touch. Definitely memorable.

Yup, you didn't disapoint. Loved the scene where they took turns removing each others weapons. And you have a knack for changing POV without it distracting from the story.

That was a great chapter. I loved the disrobing of concealed weapons, I could picture it so clearly. And the sex between them was hot. I think that they may have just found the match, each of them. Can't wait for the next chapter.

This was a great opening chapter!
I love how you filled in the time gap between tales with the discovery of the first few artefacts, and having Hawke's vampire nature aid in the retrieval of one from the ocean depths was a very creative use of his supernatural aspects.
And having the gas station gal spew out her own address and key location was hilarious. Lol. Perfectly executed. The Iron Pit turned out to be quite a vile place, full of potential dangers and hazards. None more formidable than Anna though. ;) She definitely has the poise for scummy environments.
The mutual attraction between Hawke and Anna felt very natural too. They were both equally and surprisingly smitten by each other. And kudos to Hawke for being so bold there at the end to assure Anna that the allure wasn't just one sided on her part. ;)
The stand off with Hawke and the armed bikers was thrilling too, as was Hawke's choice of weaponry. And the graphic way he disarmed, or should I say disfingered the gunman was awesome! I would bet they'll be planning retribution at the hospital emergency room. Lol.
A really great chapter with excellent writing and superb storytelling. The stage is now set for what I am sure will be an intricately layered, intriguing, and exciting story. Can't wait to learn more about Hawke and see how those possessive tendencies brewing beneath his surface emerge towards Anna. ;)

A great and comfortable read. I sorta lost myself for a moment there. I was never keen on the whole damsel in distress bit myself or the flawless macho man. I was secretly waiting for Anna to tell him off or toss a drink in his face. But a part me really wants to know what happens next and possibly more of the background surrounding our hero. Sooo...I'm going to follow in hopes you do actually post a second chapter.
Also...did I miss something...because there was no pointing of guns at balls? As the summary promised. lol So there has to be a second chapter.
