Hey there! :)
I apologize for how abysmally late this review is. June was an incredibly rough month. But I promise I did read this pretty much when you posted it, and then a few times after, and now... here we go.
There isn't much I can tell you that I haven't told you before, but this brought a whole new meaning to "full circle." Again, the way you know every loose end and every thought of these two is absolutely incredible. It takes quite the organized mind to keep track of everything and tie every loose end; in fact, I'm quite jealous of it! With this, it feels like that Gemma and Boone's story can really come to an end, even if you are willing to write in this setting again. There is definitely a way to leave a story open and yet give a satisfactory ending, and you absolutely nailed it. Wonderful.
What I really loved about this piece in particular is the attention to detail: the money in Boone's pocket at the beginning, the oatmeal raisin cookie, the small little details that seem mundane in every day life, so that most authors don't think of it, but end up bringing a story to life. You've always had a knack for setting a scene but these little bits and pieces were so vivid that I really felt like I was there. This was particularly engrossing and I really think that "The Rookie" is a showcase of how far you've come, and how much you've absorbed critique and praise and reviews. It's so heartening to see, and as sad as I am it's come to an end, it definitely feels right.
So really, the only thing I have left to say is thank you. Thank you so much for consistently updating your stories even though life happens to you too, and letting us watch you and your characters grow into the story. It's really the best way for all of us to develop, to watch another writer come into their own. I'll miss these two characters, but I can't wait to see what's next from you.
Until next time,
Khatira

I havent been around a lot to review but I followed this story from the beginning and felt I HAD to comment.
Although it took me a minute to follow the timeline...maybe because I was reading this really late, lol...BUT this gave me some closure for Gemma and Boone!
Your just so gifted and I hope you never stop causing people like me to fall in love with a story and characters.
Thanks for sharing your gift!

I have really enjoyed your three stories about Gemma and Tom. They are well written and believable. The characters are not perfect but are perfect for each other. Your place descriptions pique my interest into some of the locales you set your stories. All well done. I see it's been a while since you have posted anything on fiction press. Can I hope you have anything in the works soon?

Okay I finally finished reading The Rookie…sorry it took me so long but things have been crazy busy lately! :-( I actually read most of it and then had a week where I didn't manage to finish it so I ended up reading it from the beginning again tonight and I couldn’t stop until I finished, it was addictive and enthralling! I am running out of positive things to say to you, it was fantastic, as is all your writing! I really loved the way it was written, the unique and clever way it was constructed, and the fact it was from Boone’s perspective, it was so cool to get that side of things too! It was great to revisit some moments from Vertigo and Ricochet from Boone's perspective and to also have some further development of him as a character by looking back to before he met Gemma. I also loved how you went past Ricochet and further developed their relationship as you went. Like I said in the last chapter of Ricochet, I really like Gibson as a character...she has definitely grown on me! Your ability to add humour to the characters and short passages in time is incredible!
These characters are just so great, well written, and developed that I hope you feel the need someday to revisit them! Until then, I will look forward to the next story you write at some point down the line, true to form it will be excellent no doubt! Thanks for sharing your stories and talent! ;-)

This is just so brilliant, thank you so much for writing something from Boone's pov when I read that you were planning this, I got so excited you don't even know. There is just so much I loved about this and I want to try and put them all here without making this review unbearably long so here we go. I loved the way you including the timeline and the insights you gave us to Boone's past. Poor Boone :(. I just wanted to wrap him in a blanket and hug him. It made me love flawed Boone even more because despite the mistakes he made his past showed that he is really strong. His dad's death was really haunting too you wrote that beautifully it was so sad. And that line about his eyes looking the same an hour before he committed suicide :(. And I loved the parallel from when Boone didn't care if he lived or died while in the Military and now he says he doesn't live for that anymore because he has Gemma now. "She sounded like someone who'd get on his nerves" awwwwww :)) Boone you don't even know whats gonna hit you. And aww Gemma made him laugh cause of macaroni, she had him laughing before she even met him. Loved reading their first meeting, it gives me goosebumps thinking about all they are gonna go through from that point on. All this scenes with their arguing always love them. I LOVED the cookie thing and how she gives him one at the end too! sigh, they're adorable. I love Gemma's just for Boone smile just like he has one for her. Boone searching up first date stuff, seriously he's just a teddy bear inside. The part where Boone and Gemma make up and he starts to believe she does love him it makes me tear up, really a lot of parts make me tear up, but yay for Boone character development! LOVED when Boone was fighting to keep Gemma his partner, again teared up. "Whats this feeling? he'd think before sleep overtook him" ITS LOVE :) loved. every. single. part. set. after. ricochet. the how many times do i say i love you, jealous boone, the note, the I miss you call, perfection. Ugh I love these characters so much i can't help it i feel so many things one of my favorite characters of all time. The flawed, real, funny, perfectly imperfect, badass couple. I loved that you didn't go with the cliche ending too, it fits them perfectly, and you included everything i hoped to see from boone's pov too so thank you :) no matter what you write next i will be happily reading it.

Oh my gosh. I can't believe this story has come to an end. No words can describe how much I am so in love with this story that I felt like I am being transported to a different world. Now, I understand where Boone is coming from and what made him a difficult person to say "it" to her.
Dear author, I would like to thank you for sharing your talent of invoking different emotions to others through words. I hope to read your stories (published) in the future.
Xoxo, P

I am in love with this one shot. What a stupid, reckless, perfect ending to Gemma and Boone's story. Stupid - because it's ending, reckless - because you dared avoid the typical 'I love you, let's get married and have 2.5 kids' that one usually finds in romance noveld, and perfect - because this was absolutely the perfect ending for these amazing characters.
'How often am I supposed to say it?' Damn it Boone. Stop being so freaking cute already.
Thank you Carmel! What a journey. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us next :)
