for The Self-Insert Manual

The characters were believable and the emotions kept me involved throughout. I think it would look great in a comic book format, and I'm anxious to bring it to life.

Thank you for sharing this amazing piece, I look forward to hearing more of your stories.

Warm regards,
Addy.

Dear, I can definitely imagine turning the story into a comic. Would you like me to create the comic or just give you some ideas on how to do it? If you want, I can suggest some characters, scenes, or plot points that would fit well into a comic format. Let me know your thoughts!

I love that I saw this. I absolutely love this! Thank you for writing this.

Oh! Nice one. I agree with you there. When I'm just starting to think of a story back then in the old days, I would be the protagonist, doing everything perfect. But I've already passed that stage and I think it is better to create a character from scratch then adding some if your characteristics later than the full self-insert one.

I already know 95 or more of what you stated except the Chinese novels cause I don't read one, but thanks for remaining part.

Lol! I like this so much! You're totally true, I'm constantly tired of how many girls so suddenly fell for the MC, I read Spirit Realm before and approve Ling Yushi quite a bit but then they had to apart, sigh... Then there's (F#k!ng b*tch) girl that become the main heroine of the arc, Tang Siqi or smth? I mean... Can absolute (downright wrong) hatred turn into absolute love in just a short amount of time!?
The worst for me is ATG, I absolutely adored that novel and absolutely adored Qingyue, the first heroine, their relationship is steady from indifference to annoyance of friends and going to akin to bestfriends who will deffend each other's prides... But what did I got!? Yun Che played around with other girls like that good for nothing princess and above that he r*ped his own wife's frickin teacher (that's certainly over one hundred years old) on pretense to save her life, RIDICULOUS! what's more the woman did not even do what she threatened to do, if it was me at the very least I might castrate him no matter if he had saved my life. I dropped the novel permanently when it's discovered that the teacher is pregnant and LOVES Yun Che back nonetheless! Apparently in China, when a girl have a sex (or raped) with someone they did not love they come to love them (WOW! BRAVO!)
I had to agree with you for TDG, he's one MC that I won't come to love as a child. He's perverted, I mean... Dude I know you have a sexual frustration for hundred of years being single and all, but a thirteen years old girl?! That's crossing the line! Yes, Xiao Ning'er is a better choice I love her much more that Ye Ziyun (you wrote the name wrong btw there) who can only stomps feet and brooding (yet, she always the one who get the most thing). Xiao Ning'er have the right to be the main heroine, she's strong. Her feelings come out natural (unlike Ye Ziyun's development which come out REALLY forced) and her character development is steady and brilliant! The author is simply stupid to keep Ye Ziyun around, it's like Nie Li can't even get over that one sex in their previous life.
In BTTH, what I come to hate is recently every girls that MC encountered fell for him right away purely because of his strength and talent, Ha! Cheap Girls! I had to agree with Xun'Er's problem, the author did not even fully reveal why she fell for Xiao Yan and seems so adamant about it. But seeing she practically lived with him since they're both five or so, the feeling is understandable plus I think it something that had happened in childhood. The Author should get her more depth though, but I've had my fair share of trash and shitty heroines so in my eyes she came out as good enough although one-dimensional. On the other hand, Medusa Is The BEST GIRL! It's upset me how the author is somewhat relucant in giving her and Xiao Yan an intimate time (the scene in the magma does not count). While the b*tch Yun Yun got so many intimate scenes. It can be called Pedophillia! She likes Xiao Yan when the boy is still around fifteen! And the fact that XY is her own student's younger ex-fiance did not stop her! Goddammit! Author even make XY go this "Omigosh I'm not ready to be a father!" panic reaction when Around Medusa... Yet, he kissed and probably f*cked YunYun in Misty Cloud sect's ruins... Goddammit Xiao Yan, he's lucky I have hundreds chapters pent up adoration for him.

No one knows more about self-inserts than you, Tomo. That being said, your confidence is what needs saving. If I told you everything you wrote was garbage would you stop writing?

I don't think this belongs here. According to the rules and I quote;

Entries not allowed:
1. Non-stories: lists, bloopers, polls, previews, challenges, author notes, and etc.

This isn't really a story. This will do much better on your profile.

Good luck.

This article is actually well thought out and lists things down from both perspectives (Why self inserts are bad sometimed and how they can become good).

When it comes down to it, there is not a whole lot more one can talk about regarding self inserts, other than actually getting down to it and talk about execution. Now thats reserved for general character talk.

For Mary Sues, what matters most is the context. I mean, sure you can have your main character blow up an entire sea fleet, heck even planets. But when the other inhabitants of the world do far more incredible things like destroying galaxies and, suddenly, the "Mary Sue" pales in course, if its done in a way that makes the character seem OP regardless of the world (praise and stuff like you mentioned), then sure, calling out is not even a choice anymore.

Ultimately, it depends on execution and context, rather the absurdity. If its done well, and in a coherent fashion, and is fitting, sure that warrants a pass.

As for such stories like Long Live Summons, people just like to see one dimensional characters do absurd things sometimes. And sometimes they don't. Depends.

(Oh, and before I forget, the male term for Mary Sue is "Gary Stu", though I think you know it?)

Also forgot to mention, what do you classify the main character/s for Overlord (LN) as?

obligatory comment~~~ Also FIRST (i think)

Also, what am i suppose to click when i search Lord Tatsuya?

Also, your comment about getting a 20 kill 0 death streak... that happened twice on CoD before, and once was on a super laggy American server XD

This was certainly an entertaining read and a helpful one at that. So good work! The information you have presented here is logical and obviously well thought out. :)
My only gripe is that your titles of the segments aren't in bold or otherwise defined, as it can be too easy to read on without realising that it is a title. But that was my only problem.

Love it and interested to see what else you have in store!
