Woah this was all very meta and interesting.
One thing I liked was how you mingled mystery crime novels with this story, you had Bencolin trying to sus out every angle of the murder. I wouldn't have guessed that the body was dead before the (fake) gunshot sound went off, although I suppose I should've. I'm realising now how when Mary said disturbing things, like finding a severed head in her toilet, it wasn't because she was quirky but because she was actually insane. Oh yeah, and she insisted she was Irish to everyone when actually she wasn't. I like how all the pieces fit together now at the end. This story had an interesting flavour to it. The action definitely seemed to pick up in the second half, the conversation between Bencolin and Anderson seemed to serve not as much purpose, apart from introducing more information about the protagonist. I came to enjoy this more than I thought I would. And oh, in like three places there are some grammar mistakes, like you said choice instead of choose or one or the other. Good job.
