I'm a little bit confused about whether this is an introduction to a longer story or just a short piece of flash fiction... at first I thought it was just a short piece, but that last paragraph seems to imply there's more to the story.

Either way this had some beautiful word craft, and if you're planning on writing more I'd like to read it.
