I feel like dark fantasy rather than horror is a better categorisation of this piece.
I liked it, but despite the dark ending, it never really approached horror for me. Which isn't to say it's poorly written or that it doesn't work. It absolutely does - I just feel like fantasy is a more natural home for it than horror.
The description is evocative, and the drip feeding of info to the reader works. At times I think it might have benefited from a little editing, but by and large, pretty solid.
