This one, hits quite hard. I know how that feels to try cracking jokes when you have a looming problem over you. But just like her, I think she can't hide her worries good enough, as they will surface on her face now and then. Especially, now that she is opening a bit to the narrator.

If I were in the narrator's shoes, yes. I would laugh with her, all the time.
