The cave team continues regretting nothing. Then there's a shriek, but it's not a ghost or a monster. They go forward. The scary sounds end at a fork. The plan is go right unless that isn't the right way. Deeper in the caverns the soldier alien asks if there are any creatures to worry about and the whole team has questions. The familiar alien says maybe. They might be followed. Questions follow about the gate that his people wouldn't have put there. They come to many paths and can hear things everywhere. The tunnels are too small so they just get into combat formation. The familiar alien can fight with fire. The soldier does a helmet heat scan and finds nothing. They watch the tunnels and hear more screeches. They get ready. They're almost there. The first creature seen gets fireballed and crawls away. It's a bug. They fight the monster bugs. The leader's blade bounces off except against the head, but everything else works. The insects fight back with goo and other stuff. It doesn't smell bad though. Some fighting later the bugs flee and don't come back. It's gross, and limbs are a bit numb, but at least it doesn't stink. Too bad the cult's heads don't explode like theirs. They continue on but think the gate is not for these things. They have enough supplies so they keep going.

4th chapter underground and our group fights cave large bugs that screech, bite, and leave behind goo that doesn't smell. The whole group gets to do something, and Garn gets to use his helmet a bit. First the group becomes gradually aware of them. Then it feels like a wait upon knowing they're there to when the bugs start attacking.

Favorite Part: Fighting creatures underground that's more to worry about than just the cult. The fact that the goo doesn't stink is a second because that's unexpected for bug goo.

Location: still in the tunnels. Time: Unknown. The only thing they find is kinda a wall. Plan A: Punch the gate even though it might hurt. It might be a trap though, so plan B: the boring way: figure out the gate without explosions. Who put the gate here?: to be pondered. The familiar alien taps it, and nothing happens, but it might be a trap. He's not familiar with the updates of his kind since he hasn't talked to them in a while. They need to open the gate so plan A it is and it hurts. The leader doesn't think it's that tough. Plan C: Melt it with a laser. The transformer dad's heat warning comes off as a bit of an insult to flesh. Plan C works...slowly. They then make sure the puncher's hand is okay and tease him a bit. The transformer dad breaks up the banter for his concentration, though batteries not required. They discuss an old master, how the alien dad's doing, avoiding getting the daughter to journey, before the soldier alien is urged to tell his short story: He saw a lot, lived on a ship, visited some planets, and most of it is classified. He discusses what he can including his 4XL home planet, same gravity though. Planet features: large cities, safety from above, stuff to leave out, swamps, jungles, that's half of it, and it is missed. Only the familiar alien enjoyed his story. The transformer dad is done. With the loud defeat of the mighty gate our heroes move on.

In this chapter the cave party put their heads together to get past a gate. Demi's hand got hurt in the line of duty, but Shocker was ultimately able to laser the tough gate down in a slow struggle. In the meantime since they can't banter Garn has story time, abridged and edited down story time. That completely inanimate gate was not their easiest opponent...

The group is only trying 1 thing at a time, so they are kind of acting as 1 unit, and of course leaving space in a cave. We learn Garn's simple version of what his planet is like, and get a few tidbits that are not surprising, but notable to confirm including: he's seen several planets already.

Favorite Part: First idea: Punch it. I also liked the follow up plan when nothing was working: melt it with a laser. I think they've solved problems this way before...

It's quiet underground, making the soldier alien think too much. Another wonders if the oven is off prompting an argument. The others ignore it, and they all move on. Meanwhile the innkeeper teaches how to make sure everything is in order, and gives the daughter some kind of taser to prevent calm troublesome people down or just ask bounty hunters for help. After talking more about bounty hunters here the innkeeper discusses with a group what little is known about a criminal group that may have seen too many movies. Why? Don't underestimate the quantity of stupid. The innkeeper didn't check the rank of this group, and won't tell his age beyond old, and teaches her how to check rank. He shows his old ID to demonstrate, but it gives him a message that it's deactivated and that he's an idiot. He'll handle the big stuff, and the daughter will support, and she's okay with that. She flashes back to finding pictures at home of her father she shouldn't have. The rush is late, probably due to hunting the cult. Then the rush comes and the daughter is able to speak to the people, serve them, and compares it to her alien dad's job of fixing robots. The innkeeper usually naps when the rush is down, though alien dad does not, but he is special. The innkeeper leaves his job to her.

We get a chapter about what Dawn's doing with Jekila: doing part of his, one of his, job as a sort of desk clerk for bounty hunters. In the explanation Jekila gives he discusses some ins and outs of how things work with the receptionist side of bounty hunting. And he seems to possibly be dumping his work, at least the part he'd normally nap, on Dawn, though she doesn't seem to be complaining, and alright at it.

And our spelunking heroes fight over if an oven was left on. Clearly they are quite engaged in their work...

Favorite Part: Some of the world building with the receptionist side of the bounty hunting explanations.

The group quickly finds their place in the sun. They're making double time. The rusty, loud, and unmaintained entrance is in a soft spot. It's better than jumping but they jump in anyway, at least most of them do. They can't see anything except the transformer dad's lights until the familiar alien snaps his fingers, and has fire through magic or the planet's energy. The familiar alien can feel the way with his feet like a GPS. In the big tunnel the soldier alien puts on his trusty helmet to see things that way. They consider banter but don't. Listening to the echoes the familiar alien knows the way to the boring rocky village. He's from far away, and he's not a criminal, but he did hit a guy for touching his bum once. How do they proceed? They go deep. At a fork in the path they realize the planet is big and has no satellites like someone's crashing them on purpose. They decide to go left and the familiar alien marks it in a way his kind will respect. The transformer dad wonders if the hacking attempts will get worse near the relic, but he'll let them know if he experiences changes he has to clarify a bit. He banters the advantage over cellular life before they find a dead end, and the transformer dad has a built in clock. They're not sure how long this will take to explore.

Our heroes go caving through tunnels looking for some sign of the robot cult. We learn bits about the planet in particular in this chapter: the native underground culture, that satellites don't work, Lust's planet energy magic. They don't find anything of note yet which seems realistic to me.

Garn's multi-vision helmet is back, yay! What vision doesn't it have? It appears Shocker has certain basic utility functions built in. I'm wondering if Shocker's 'changes' could be a sensor for the relic since they're literally in the dark on an exact location.

Favorite Part: Demi says it's better they're not jumping down, David has already jumped down.

Their morning begins with banter. Everything is good. The soldier alien's only advice to the daughter: Don't trust the innkeeper. During planning the innkeeper offers to watch the daughter. The alien dad comes up as a threat getting the innkeeper to inquire about him and understand what he's like. Then they're setting out to save the alien dad, but know when they'll be back. After they leave and the daughter misinterprets a common saying she listens to the innkeeper explain more how bounty hunters get paid and why. The soldier alien already misses her. The familiar alien explains details about them going underground and 1 safe path with input from the transformer dad as they get on their vehicles and leave.

Not much happens in this short chapter, but the ending spot makes sense. Garn spent most of the chapter trying to shelter Dawn from the lewd in the usual banter fashion. Then they go on the hunt.

There were a few nice 'how things work' explanations in this from Jekila and Lust about bounty hunter pay and why to take the correct entrance.

Favorite Part: The 'how things work' explanations and Garn explaining he's not sure when they'll be back and explaining why. Those things are practical here and make a lot of sense.

It takes time driving past farming scenery for our heroes to get to their destination with a big, broken ship in the city's center. It's a mystery why ships don't fly here. We get an observation-based history lesson on the kind of ship as they wait outside the gate for it to open. The transformer family is not from here. The bounty buddies drive ahead to troll the others, but they catch up. At the headquarters where they'll get their missions the soldier alien tells the daughter to not get in trouble not sure if she will. It looks just like the office back home. An alien greets them resulting in banter and recap of facts. The familiar alien will be their guide through the tunnels. More banter follows that gets the alien dad's parental senses and his payback vibes are felt. Our heroes have a motel set up for them and the soldier alien wants the daughter to forget the conversation. The group splits up to rest or train.

We get some world-building and a new named character. We see examples of farming and a lot of details about the imagery of this mothership town.

The headquarters is said to look similar to the old one. On reading the old one I was always picturing a old-west saloon with touch screen kiosks, but I'm doubting that now. I'm sure I'm wrong on this, but my first instinct is to treat this whole planet as having 'wild west' terrain (more dirt than grass).

Jekila provokes more topics of the usual banter. I have a bad feeling about him if he provoked Phaon's parental senses from his prison...

I'm not exactly sure what kind of trolling Demi was going for when he had his vehicle drive ahead.

Favorite Part: The mystery of how ships won't fly and the history of the kind of ship the town was named for.

The soldier alien is up early ready to hunt some cultists while the daughter sleeps. The familiar alien still isn't at the office. After worrying about the alien dad the transformer and his daughter enter with a mess from pie on his face as he curses humor. Then the bounty buddies show up with the familiar alien who was there yesterday. They need him to help him search underground and he agrees for good cash. On the way out by bike, transformer, and car he is surprised by the transformer's transformation, prompting a reference. They talk about their aptly named destination made of a crashed ship. Meanwhile the alien dad's priority is to bail. He imagines the reunion then destroys a holographic machine. He 'didn't see anything' but a bot needs fixing. He's guided through an underground city to a place with many broken robots. He'll be busy for a while.

The group of named characters gather together (mainly having Lust as a guide) and head to Mothership Town. Garn is given a lot of robots to repair by his captors. There's a little banter and small talk.

Out of curiosity is Garn's reference to the transformer franchise or is it more vague than that? (There are other franchises with transforming robots)

Favorite Part: Garn's reference to a show humans made long ago about 'titan robots'.

The soldier alien is eager to show off his new ride, but the familiar alien isn't around, but doesn't have to wait too long for his bounty buddies to show up, followed by the transformer dad and his daughter. The pursue a group of criminals to test his daughter whose ability is questioned. They find a ship pointed up before it's explained that no ship can escape the planet. With her ability still questioned the transformer's daughter gets her chain sword ready, which is a risky weapon. Then her stance gets complimented before a request to show her skill. She demonstrates she can throw the blade, spin it, and make it change directions, which is impressive, but it isn't a real fight as needs repeating. While they're bantering she's already fighting with a robot decapitation already. They go over to see and she's practically done with this bunch only having to throw her sword at the last straggler. She has to wait up so she can properly show off. They see what she can do and the robo-carnage is too brutal for the daughter so see. The transformer's daughter has to take cover when the lasers come out, but during the break from the limits of laser blasters she uses her chain sword as a regular sword with evasive skills to get slicing robots in half. It's over quickly; she took no prisoners. They're all ready to fight except the alien's daughter, which is said as for the best. With the test concluded they leave the robot canage behind.

So it's finally revealed how Maniko got Silver rank equal to Garn. She can fight and it looks like she's good with area-of-effect utter annihilation of all fodder attacks...

The team seems to feel like they're ready to take on the robot cult if they can find them.

Now the only question is what Dawn's going to do for the team if she's not the driver anymore or a fighter.

I'm not sure what is meant when Dawn says "Phaon will know". I think it means Dawn is trying to rib Shocker for having Maniko learn such a dangerous weapon.

Favorite Part: The concept of Maniko's weapon. I understand it to be an energy sword manipulated from a distance by a chain. It seems unique for a sci-fi story to me and is basically a barrage of pure offense that's kind of ninja-like in terms of how fast it's shown to be used.

The soldier alien and the daughter leave the office to look for some new wheels. The daughter contemplates what the bounty buddies can do in action while the soldier alien has more interest in picking out the new ride. A tuxedo-look seller robot greets them with a shello, which is good for customers so it's not a glitch. They check out the anti-grav motorcycles, but they're too big for the daughter, and the cool ones are too small for the soldier alien. The soldier alien is picky as there will be no take backs, and the bored daughter decides to see the doctor. It won't take him more than a couple of hours as he asks for specs on the vehicles. The daughter leaves his vehicle-loving shiny eyes and finds the doctor, who's an old friend, and they discuss what happened to the alien dad. She says she's going with the soldier alien for now, but she won't go to fight. The doctor reminds her to not be reckless again and urges her to return to her friend, but she doesn't. Meanwhile the soldier alien has narrowed his choice down to his choice that reminds him of the empire. He gives it a short drive, but can't really test it, but has a warranty. Daydreaming about giving her a ride he drives to the daughter. He is greeted by her and the doctor who scares him. The doctor insists she will not be in danger and teases the soldier alien about the other night to make his point. The soldier alien and daughter promise she'll be safe. He shows her the vehicle and his face reminds her of her dad. The soldier alien is driving, but she insists on being in front of him so she can actually see.

This is a simple chapter and relaxing at this point overall. Garn buys a hover-cycle that's big enough and fits his specs and look desires. Dawn visits Medico to let him know what's going on.

Medico has been mentioned and has done a check up on Garn off-screen (well he was; his voice wasn't...). However, this is the first time I think he's been a full character in a scene from memory. He didn't seem to scare Garn that much in the conversation this time.

So if Garn's the main driver of the main vehicle and Dawn can't fight I'm wondering what she's going to do on this journey now.

I noticed a lot of grammatical errors where the wrong word is used or missing words in this chapter. I found it fully understandable what's going on, but they did seem glaring in this chapter.

Favorite Part: The seller robot. The tuxedo look I think fits in for a vehicle salesman and that it has some quirks that it's glad to have.

The daughter and the soldier alien get up in that respective order, contemplate missing the alien dad, eat breakfast, pep talk, and get going. At the office a bunch of robots wave at them. According to reassurance the alien dad might be alone, but he might be scaring his captors. They then find the transformer dad and bounty buddies talking/arguing, one of them at least. They do greetings and and they are on board with the team thing with some banter. Then the soldier alien officially joins the party and will now share profits. The daughter asks a question and the group asks why she's here to which the soldier alien replies so she won't be alone. The transformer's daughter suggests maybe she'll learn to kill, prompting her to get questioned on what she can do, prompting her to say no one's lived long enough to say anything, prompting the party to get creeped out, prompting the transformer dad to back her. Testing her fighting ability on a hunt is proposed. Then there's a debate over who should be the leader. The transformer dad is proposed by his daughter over the obvious first choice, making the dad nervous on the spot and convince her to agree with the first choice anyway. The leader suggests they get the help of a group known for digging, like the guy they saved chapters ago who's not around now. The leader, assigns someone to watch the daughter's home, and they all head out.

With that the party has been formed. Aside from finding and fighting the robot cult again, and finding a new set of wheels in the next time, not sure exactly where they'll go from here. At the very least it looks like we're going to see more of Shocker, Maniko, and most notably David and Demi.

David emerges as the leader for being the most level-headed...Though with this bunch that's not saying much...However, it is a good sign he was unanimously agreed upon to be the leader...at least once Shocker talked his daughter into it...

Favorite Part: That some questions I had earlier are getting asked by the characters. What is Maniko's unseen combat ability that gave her rank? Why didn't Lust change his name?
5/14/2024 c21 Viewer27Man
While waiting for bounty hunters the soldier alien vows to the sad daughter to save the alien dad. The bounty buddies lost the tracks and the soldier alien requests somewhat dramatically to join the hunt. No convincing necessary, he's on board. Wanting to move fast they decide to plan and look for clues. There are mixed feelings as they discuss recruiting the transformer dad and his daughter. Preliminary plans made the bounty buddies head out. The soldier alien offers to make the daughter lunch and wants her help, but she's not hungry. At her reply the soldier alien contemplates that he probably won't stick around forever. She has to think on what to do as offered by the soldier alien since staying alone isn't an option. Meanwhile the alien dad is in the deep underground base. When the tunnel opens up he's surprised to see this place of maintenance is so big. The robots need him to fix a broken follower, jail him, and he complains about his booty that the robots take seriously for some reason... The alien dad sees the jail commodities including a holographic screen with eye candy to him. However, being a dad he resists hoping his daughter is okay. Meanwhile the soldier alien sits gloomy rather than sleep that night. The daughter comes in and asks to sleep with him to not be alone. The soldier alien mulls over it but after getting a giggle out of her they agree to let her rest top of him. She then decides to go with the soldier alien not wanting to lose anyone when he promises she won't.

A chapter to wrap up the initial search, show Phaon's jailing state, and for Garn and mostly Dawn to decide what to do next. Not much physically happens here, but that makes sense when dealing with Dawn's shock.

The phrasing of 'sleeping with' is usually very loaded. Though knowing the characters I know I can take that literally here.

This is more of a long-term thing to bring up:
David and Demi have appeared a few times, and I'd argue they're practically 1 entity in the story for the most part so far since they're almost always together. In how they speak David is the more polite of the 2 though will rib Demi a bit, while Demi seems to be a bit like what Garn used to be verbally, and they both act as professional bounty hunters senior to Garn. They don't seem to be particularly major characters so far, but right now they're the main bounty hunters for Garn to turn to.

Favorite Part: Dawn ultimately deciding to go with Garn. I think this is the most entertaining option. I'm eager to see their team get gathered and for them to find the robot cult.

Garn is about to be a bounty hunter. I see, so that’s what he will do until he returns to space.

We cut back to the alien dad having a blissful daydream of his daughter and the soldier that turns into his kind of nightmare as he cleans his garage. Then the cult knocks including the priest who speaks in beeps, but has a translator. The alien dad takes the picture they don't seem to notice and isn't interested in the fixing job they want him for. The translator says they won't kill him and intend to leave his daughter alone, and in fact won't kill any organics except in self-defense, not supposed to translate that last part. In his struggle the alien dad drags his feet, leaves behind other traces, gives mixed truth TMI, notices the priest bot is different, and complains about being dragged down a secret pit in a field. We then cut back to the end of the last chapter where the soldier alien and daughter see the culprits through the picture taken. The soldier alien goes into detective mode a bit as bounty hunters and city security come in to help, though none are quite sure what the robot cult is up to. The soldier alien vows to find answers and the alien dad for the stressed daughter.

This adds to the suspense of the last chapter. It answers how the kidnapping went down, but also raises some questions mostly about the cult.

What stands out to me is the robot cult saying they don't want to kill outside of self-defense, and if it wasn't a mistake on the translator's part I'd think they might've just been saying that. They've attacked vehicles according to other chapters and kidnapping Phaon here so they don't seem to care about laws. So I'm not sure what they're up to that they'd rather go out of their way to not kill for it while being fanatics over the relic. I'm curious to see what this is all about.

Phaon was quite the fighter here for his lack of power. He's definitely not pulling a 'take me instead' here for his loved one's sake and coming quietly. He's actively trying to be found and doing everything he can to get out of his predicament and annoy the robots too. It's refreshing to see this and in character for him.

Favorite Part: Phaon putting up the kind of fight he can to try to be found.
