"This is a beautifully written and deeply moving story! The poetic prose and the tender, complex portrayal of Liliane and the narrator’s bond really capture the intensity of first love and friendship. I’m captivated by their journey and eager to see how it unfolds!

I hope this message finds you well. I recently had the pleasure of reading your story " Follow/FavIn Retrospect," and I wanted to take a moment to share how much I truly enjoyed it. Your storytelling is both captivating and thought-provoking, and it deeply resonated with me, adding incredible richness to the narrative.

Edit this down. There are a lot of superfluous words.

Your summary makes me afraid to fall in love with Madame Goulet. Calling her aura of motherhood a 'sacred tenderness' and having her be totally unaffected by a disarrayed room sets her on a very high pedestal. The fact that she 'never' gets angry fells like a challenge.
It's baffling that such a staunch philosopher can have a deep relationship with a religious wife. How did they get together I wonder?
If one ever finds a friend like Liliane, they are incredibly blessed

Being damned for the contents of thoughts baffles the adult mind as well. Makes one easier to manipulate, I suppose - more malleable. "Redolent" "peal of the bell" " unfettered nature" "libertine" my friend - these words/phrases tickle my brain in the best way possible. NO ONE has captured this turn of the century style anymore, at least no one that I enjoy bc they always seem to come across as pretentious. The beginning of your chapter is rich with the flare and then you dial it back so the dialogue flows unincumbered - love. You have such a way with descriptions that are just rich enough for context but not forever lingering. (When Lily first speaks, you missed an l in 'ill' I think it got caught up later in the phrase during an edit - just helping spot a minor typo since you've clearly already done a fantastic job editing this)

I've never smiled so much at such high order vocabulary describing a sweet tooth. At that age, the flare for dramatics is on point. I'm amazed that you captured the spirit and intensity of childhood emotion in your word choice. Comparing a sheltered childhood to a closed garden was beautiful. Your writing style is something I haven't come across in a very very long time and not from someone contemporary. I'm enjoying it so much.

If Anne Shirley was talking about Diana in the Franco Prussian war, it would be this. Wow. Brava.
