The shadow boy gets up with a scratch, a stretch, and breakfast. He doesn't like stares or seeing the mayor's face. The mayor thinks he'll be a shadowlord and destroy the world while the priest insists otherwise, and it goes back and forth for a while. He claims he's corrupting children, not knowing his son is the shadow boy's friend. He knows the encounter last chapter as he continues to defend him. After the mayor leaves for the week the priest prays he finds reason. The gathering room has several depictions of good beating evil. While sitting in a place to avoid stares the shadow boy sees the girl there too, and she joins him after the sermon. The kids like the action while the sister emphasizes the lessons of effort in getting his holy sword. Like the shadow boy's magic? Or learning the holy texts according to the sister. Then they can play. The parents of the girl worry about the shadow boy being with her. At the park the shadow boy shows a new trick: a ball of darkness that the girl likes more than him. On throwing the ball up it explodes. He then flips, but the girl can double flip, and is taller. Then the bullies show up, still dented from last time, are eager for a snowball fight with no rocks around. A snowball to the face disrupts the shadow boy's concentration. She asks for the new magic with an evil smile, but she's got to get them first. Her step makes one step back. Taking another snowball the shadow boy decides to fight now magic later. He jumps on one and punches the bully hard. The pair continue to fight the bullies, with the girl getting thrown down. The shadow boy gets his shadow ball ready, drops it, and and uses a bully as a shield. The explosion destroys the boys' clothes and damages the girl's pants. The bullies run away. Then the pair hears something, the people getting loud, and leave to help the girl with her clothes before the villagers get mean. They go in the window of the church and hope her parents aren't there. The shadow boy goes to find the priest while the girl wonders why the spell harmed clothes rather than caused harm. The priest needs to talk to the bullies' parents, then uses magic to fix girls' pants, that he can only do since they were destroyed by magic. The priest goes to check on the bullies, and it's quiet. After a playful hood fight it gets late and the girl's got to go home. The shadow boy hopes he's not in too much trouble.
This chapter covers the church Phillip lives at, shows how August stands up for him, and Phillip learns shadow ball that does purely clothes damage. We get introduced to the mayor in person who believes that Phillip is the Shadowlord of myth and will one day destroy the world.
Also August's clothes repair only works on magic-destroyed clothes. A strange detail that may mean something.
There's a second encounter with the bullies this chapter where Phillip fights back more, both with his fists, and his clothes-wrecking shadow ball...
Favorite Part: That the shadow ball destroys clothes and only clothes. Odd, but it works for scaring the bullies off without getting messy.

I want to take a moment to share my thoughts on your story. I loved it! The creative writing makes it truly enjoyable and engaging. This story has great potential to be converted into a comic and I believe audiences would love it if it were adapted into that format.

The world of the story has magic creatures and is divided. North, South, Free, Empires, Moon, Sun, Sand. War never ends and has no known beginning. A shadowlord is said to appear and conquer the world with his shadow brand army. His birth doesn't get inheritance. It's is a luck (bad luck) thing, and a penalty involved. It's happening in some crummy place in the free place. Coincidentally, a prayerful priest rescues an abandoned baby there. 8 years later the boy grows up with the church and has fangs and no nose or ears. 3 boys call him a freak and bully him with snowballs. One loads a rock, but gets a rock to the face first by a girl who stands up for the church boy who then uses magic to return the snowball favor 100-fold. After some insult exchange and the girl grabbing another rock the bullies run away. Getting them was the plan. A rock is her recommendation. They chat about how much violence is recommended or not. After the girl messes with church boy's hood a dove tells them dad is at work and they can come. They ignore gazes and phase through a fence to meet a boy with a cough who's learning about magic. He requests their adventures, and the girl gives all the input about today's events. The cough boy argues with the girl about rocking the bully. She tells more stories until her voice is done. The cough boy says the church boy has the voice and look to be the shadowlord. The church boy demonstrates his uncopiable magic to have shadows dance. After the girl scratches the shadow boy over her shadow being fat. No one will find them inside; they have a magic lock. The girl is happy to watch the boys happily play their game that coughing boy consistently wins. The visitors leave before they can get caught. They go to their homes for the evening. The shadow boy returns to the priest and sister he lives with. He describes his day on his terms, somewhat abridged and choppily. He's happy for meat. The priest and sister are happy he has his friends.
We get an introduction to this world and its legend about a shadowlord followed by 3 kids hanging out and standing up for each other. Phillip is some kind of shadow being with shadow magic who's looked down on by most people. Lucina is a feisty girl who will throw rocks to stand up for him. Kevin is a boy with a cough in a fancy house who's good at his board game. Given the legends of what sounds like dark cursed stuff and a shadowlord, plus the children's light-hearted fun implies to me that this story will have a lot of both light and darkness.
Oh and doves can talk for communication.
Crumberg... is certainly quite the name for a city...
Favorite Part: Using talking doves to send messages. Also Phillip's appreciation for specifically meat.
