Figure Skater's Rhapsody

A fast paced ecstasy

Your blood boiling beyond comprehension

Dizzying, intoxicating, addictive

Your body is moving in ways that seem impossible

Vaulting into the air, tightening every muscle, waiting for the impact

Your arms flung wide open, slowly sinking into yourself as the world becomes a blur

You think you're in control? Dream on

The music controls your every movement,

It controls each breath that leaves and enters your body, it controls everything.

Steel blades slicing through ice like a warrior's sword overpowering and devastating

Ribbons of words and sounds interlocking around you, pulling you into their rhythmic depths.

You watch as other do the same around you

And then you realize,

It's all just a figure skater's rhapsody

You feel lost

In spite of that you feel found

The icy temperature chills you to the bare bone

Yet you skate on, in nothing but a tank-top, nylon pans and a tights

It worth it, it's all worth it

To hear to music pulsing in your anima

To move effortlessly on frozen glass

To be a dancer, a gymnast, a contortionist and an artist, all at the same time

It's worth the frozen fingers, the wet clothes, the jagged bits of ice, the impact of failure

No price is to high to pay for the ability fling yourself in the air off a steel blade to take wing for

just a perilous moment then come crashing back down to earth and hold your head high

To proclaim to the world that you are invincible, indestructible

For the pleasure of turning the world into a senseless whirlpool, to make your own head spin

There is no true worth, it is priceless.

It's all just a figure skater's rhapsody

Do not underestimate a skater's power

We are not mere boy and girls spinning around like wind-up toys

We are athletes,

We are a driving force

We are the champions of the ice, everlasting, forever in perpetual motion

When we close our eyes

We do not see the inside of our eyelids

We see the pulse and electric waves of the music around us

Guiding us through a series of coordinated movements

We are figure skaters, nothing more, nothing less, we just exist
