Mythicasters
Part 1
Mysterious Charms
It was early November, the leaves were already scarlet and gold in there fall splendor. Kadie was in the park in her maroon school jacket. She was thinking about her birthday. It was tomorrow that she turned 13. She could barely clamp down her excitement. She was going out to eat at the new restaurant with her school friends, on account of they give free ice cream if you throw a birthday party there. Kadie was looking for party favors for the party she was going to have with her cousins, a slumber party. She decided that she would get her older brothers, D.J. and Jeremy, something too since they were going to be practicing for a show their band would be doing. Kadie didn't think much of their first songs, but she had heard that they were getting better. She had avoided them since that crash course in hearing disabilities. She laughed at the thought now. She could still see their bright red faces when she yelled, "What? I can't hear you. My hearing was just lost because of some really bad musicians!" They chased her into the hot tub in the back yard.
She was walking home through the park from her fruitless efforts of shopping. Everything was too Christmassy, or cheap looking. She was zoned out when she realized the really old looking tent with a "Charms and Pendants" sign in front. "That's what I need!" the black haired, brown eyed, half Mexican, chica thought. "Pendants and Charms are all the rage now! It would be so cool to show off my taste and shopping sense."
She opened the tent flap and heard a bell tinkle somewhere overhead. She took a quick look around her, getting her bearings, when she noticed the woman sitting cross-legged behind a short table. The table was covered in chain bracelets, charms, and pendants. Kadie noticed a sales tree with bracelets with strange pendants on them. She looked at them for a little while. One looked like a flower. It was practically calling to her, begging her to take it away and wear and cherish it. She finally looked at the sales lady, and finally realized that she was dressed very oddly. She was wearing a loose white dress and had cone-looking things on her head with her hair falling out of them like pigtails. She looked like a picture Kadie had once seen. A picture of an enchantress in a story book. She didn't let it bother her as she realized that there were enough of the odd bracelets to give all of her brothers and cousins one each. She told the lady she wanted them. The lady's eyes sparkled a mischievous sparkle and she told the girl that the bracelets were ancient and the pendants on them were magic.
She told the girl that the bracelets once brought together many kinds of magic to create powerful beings, but, the beings were more destructive than helpful. So, 14 humans were chosen by the beings, for some unknown characteristics in their hearts, to share and control their powers. Then, many eons later, a darkness, deeper and harsher than any other ever heard of, appeared on the face of the Earth. The beings and the Humans battled their very hardest, but they could not defeat the darkness. Even with amazing powers, the humans could not help. Then, they became one being, the humans and the beings, and defeated the darkness. But, because of the great loss of energy, the beings had to separate from the humans and were forced to another dimension to heal and become stronger and come back someday, but that day of reunion would, sadly, never come. The link between the dimensions was very weak, and, to make sure that the worlds did not overlap and cause mass destruction, the humans and beings made a special portal between both worlds that would allow the beings to live off the ideas and creativity of humans' songs, stories, and myths. They would not be allowed to come together again unless they used the 14 humans' bracelets and the correct sequence of pendants to reach the other dimension.
Kadie thought it was a nice story, but completely fantasy. She asked what they cost and the lady said that they were on sale. 12 for the price of 1. Kadie was suspicious, but she really didn't mind that much. They were supposed to be pretty, not functional. She paid the strange woman and left down the street, all the while thinking what a cool story it would be to tell at the slumber party. She wrote it down so she wouldn't forget.
The day flew by from then. Kadie had dinner with her family, called her friends, watched some T.V., and did her homework.
Her little brother, Brandon, however, was very busy most of that night. He had to find Kadie's gift and rehearse for an audition with his older brothers' band. It was the same day as her party, so Brandon was going to make it up to her by getting her something special. He was walking through the park, by the place Kadie had come earlier, and saw the tent. the sign outside said open so he walked right in. The lady he saw was the same one Kadie saw, only he didn't know it. He noticed a few amulets on the table and thought about Kadie saying she liked the look of charm bracelets. He bought the charm, remembering a rumor about her boyfriend at the moment, Richard , getting her a charm bracelet. Her first charm he said as he bought it and left.
Little did he know, the lady at the register knew of his relation to Kadie and she sat back and laughed as she thought of the scene that would take place when the two of them found out what the bracelets really were.
Part 2. Birthday Brawl
The morning of Kadie's birthday, she woke up late. She had accidentally hit the snooze button one too many times. She ran for dear life to make it on time to school. Not a good way to start the morning, she thought absently. She was a little out of focus most of that day, so she couldn't tell you what happened in P.E. even. Who wouldn't be, though? When you are about to have the most fun since summer vacation?
Ritchie, her boyfriend, stopped her on her way to lunch and had her open her present then. She was surprised to get the silver charm bracelet. He must have been saving for it for a while. She thought back to all the times they'd gone out to burger joints and walks in the park. She had thought he was hiding something, but she didn't want him to get teed off at her. He was the longest lasting bf yet and she wasn't going to mess it up because of a misunderstanding, not now.
The rest of the day had similar experiences. Her friends got her a diary with a key that would fit on her bracelet, charms, and candy. Kadie was on the gymnastics and cheerleading squads, so she was thought highly of. Then the 3 o'clock bell rang and they all met outside in the parking lot.
"Lets go already!' said Nikki, Kadie's blonde forgetful, yet big hearted friend.
"Shouldn't we wait for Kadie, Nik?" that was Kadie's red head sarcastic BFF, Carmen. These two are Kadie's "inner circle." She trusted them more than anyone else in the school, except Ritchie.
"No, I'm here now. Lets go before we freeze to death!" Kadie had Ritchie at her side, both wearing their school jackets and running for the restaurant to get out of the wind.
They had a blast at the restaurant. They all had pasta, breadsticks, and chocolate ice cream for desert. They talked of all the special and embarrassing moments in Kadie's life and made her face turn crimson. She had no idea that she had stayed there for 3 hours. When she finally did notice, she yelled, "Oh my gosh! I was supposed to be home hours ago! Mom's gonna have a conniption fit! Bye guys and thanks!"
Her mom and brothers were heading to the audition. Her dad was watching the four cousin's that had arrived. They were all quiet when she told them she had something nice for them. She took the girls in her room and set up her bunk bed like the lady's tent. She laid out the bracelets and started telling them the story the lady had told her. She hadn't realized until too late that she had left the bracelets to be easy prey for two snoops eaves-dropping on them. Chance was having a ball making fun of the girls outside, Gage was simply doing it because his big brother, the only guy in the house at the time, thought it was cool.
Suddenly, a hand reached in and grabbed two bracelets off the bed. "CHANCE!" Cheyenne yelled, "Give those back! They're not yours! Get 'em KADIE!" Chance tossed one to Gage and they ran round the room, Kadie after Chance, Chance after Chey, Chey after Gage, and Gage after Kadie. Darien was in the middle, staring at the acrobatics of her older siblings. Suddenly they heard her scream.
"See what you did, Chance?! Darien, sweetie, what's the matter?" Kadie picked her up like a mother and started rocking her.
"Where are we, Kadie? How did we get here?" Darien asked quietly. Kadie still thought they were in her room, but looked around anyway. She gasped. There were no woods in Pueblo! Where were they? All around her, her cousins were getting a good look around too. The trees weren't even normal looking. They were strange shades of green-blue and purple-red, like in fairy tales. They walked to the edge of the forest, thinking that they had just ran too far down the street.
They got to the edge and knew that they were lost. At the edge of the forest was a 100 ft. cliff drop. "I know we didn't go this far in so short a time!" announced Kadie. "We must have gone 50 miles in five minutes!"
"The story was TRUE!" cried Chey, " The story the lady told was true! We must have found the right sequence while we were running around the room!" They all held out their wrists to reveal that each one had a bracelet on. "See! We were chosen to come here and reunite the beings with humans!'
"Brilliant, Einstein, but you forgot something. Those humans are DEAD!" pronounced Chance. "Even if the beings are still alive, why would they bring us here? I say, this is just a super weird dream that I'm having from scoffing too much birthday cake and listening to you girls. That or we are all going to the funny farm."
They then heard rustling in the bushes nearby. Darien and Gage ran behind Kadie and Chance while Chey went to have a look. "Chey! Get away from there! It might be a puma!" yelled Kadie.
"Ya! Or a mountain cat!' stated Gage, causing Chance to chuckle aloud.
"Its alright," said Chey as she picked up a branch and continued toward the bushes, "I just wanna see what it is. Maybe it'll give us a clue as to where on Earth we are, if we are on Earth anymore."
"Be careful, sissy," mumbled Darien, half burying her face in Kadie's purple night shirt. All that you could see of her was her wide, velvet brown eyes and dirty-blonde pigtail buns.
Chey got to the bushes. "I can't see anything...wait...there's something in here, but its too small to be a mountain puma..." She walked into the bushes and suddenly gasped and yelped.
"Chey! Are you okay?!" came the others' voices.
"You guys are not gonna believe this! You will never guess what I found!" She came running out of the bushes with her hands clasped together around something. She opened the to reveal a strange blue duck looking creature, only it had webbed wings and ear frills and stubby legs and looked like it was covered in scales.
"Ewww! Cheyenne, put that...THING...DOWN THIS INSTANT!" Kadie yelled.
"It's soooo cute! Look at the ducky, Gage!" exclaimed Darien, not paying attention to Kadie. "May I hold it, Sissy?"
"Whoa! That thing looks like Duck-zilla! Cool! I wonder if we got zapped in a Pokemon movie or something..." Chance continued while looking around trying to spot another one.
Gage reached out and tried to take the duck from Chey, only to be nearly bitten. "Hey!" he exclaimed.
"Please keep away from me. I feel comfortable right where I am," stated the duck creature, earning gasps and gapes from all of the young people around him.
"Wha..Wha..What ARE you?!" Kadie stuttered. "And more importantly, Where are We?!"
"I am Stisha, a Wetwing and a child of the water elements. As for where you are, It's more like where are you from?"
"Well, last time I checked, we were from Earth, Stisha. I'm Cheyenne, and these are my brothers and sisters, Gage, Chance, and Darien, and my cousin, Kadie. I am very glad to meet you." Cheyenne was still holding the Wetwing and it was snuggling up to her and looking into her brown eyes with interest.
"I don't think I know where Earth is, but this is Genesis Isle. It is a haven for Mythicamon like me, who are too small and weak to make it outside the isle's protective mountain walls." Everyone looked at each other with confused expressions on their faces.
"See guys," Cheyenne mocked, "I told you we weren't on Earth anymore! The lady was telling the truth. A long time ago, something really bad happened and now we have to set it right." She explained to Stisha. "See, Stisha, we are humans and I think we are, or were, from another dimension than yours. Now I don't know how to get home."
"Oh my gosh! Guys, I just realized something!" Kadie got upset. "I sent off Kasey, Joey and Kerri's bracelets in the mail! You KNOW how they fight! They'll find their way here in no time! We gotta get back and warn them, FAST!"
"Geese, Kadie! Didn't you just hear Chey? We CAN"T go home! We DON"T KNOW HOW!" Chance snapped.
Suddenly they all heard a very relaxing flute song, but it didn't sound exactly like a flute. "Do you hear that," Gage asked, wide eyed. "It's beautiful! What is that? It's coming from this wa-ay-ay!" Gage started running, the others following really fast.
"Gage! Stop right there! Freeze young man!"
"I'm not doing it! Your stupid bracelet is, Kadie!"
Chey was clutching Stisha for dear life as she crashed through the brush with the others behind her, slightly behind her brother and ahead of the others. She was the one who saw where Gage had stopped first, and the one to stop really fast, and the one to knock everyone down on top of Kadie.
They were all silent for a little while. The creature looking at Gage from on top of a boulder was half goat and half human. It had a sax/flute thing raised to its mouth, but looked lost in thought. Gage was fairing no better at that moment, his hand in a straight out position, the bracelet glowing like crazy.
Gage snapped out of it really quick. "Hi! I'm Gage! Were you the one making that beautiful music? You're really good!" It stared at him some more. "What's your name?" More silence. "Are you alright? Are you hurt?" Gage looked at the furry creature. It looked like a short boy with goat ears, horns, legs, and tail. It was brown-red were the fur was.
Stisha then hopped out of Chey's arms and went to confront the creature on the rock. She jumped up to it and said, "It's alright. They look strange, but they are mostly harmless."
"That's not it," the creature murmured, "that one down there, I feel pulled to him. Do you feel it?"
"Yes, but not towards him. His sister, Chewy, though,...I think she's who I am pulled to."
They hadn't noticed until then that Gage was climbing up to them. He started slipping and out of a sudden urge, the new creature started playing his flute fast. Gage gasped when he felt some vines grip his middle and hoist him the rest of the way up.
"Wow! You are amazing!" he commented. The creature lost his feeling of unfamiliar ness and offered his hand in a handshake.
"Thank you! My name is Pheatus and I'm a Centurn, child of the ground elements. You are an amazing creature too. I haven't seen anything like you around here before." Gage blushed, taking it as a compliment.
"What are they doing?!" shouted Kadie. She kicked a rock into a nearby bush and was greeted by the sound of buzzing. "That can't be good!" She grabbed Darien up and started running. "GAGE! RUN!"
They got about 10 feet away when swarms of bug creatures flew out of the bush she had hit. They didn't look like happy campers, either.
"AHHH! Killer bugs!" Chance screamed as he grabbed Chey's arm and ran. Stisha heard Chey scream and turned toward the noise.
Kadie had Darien's middle and was making a break for the cliff when she heard someone behind her shout, "Flower Bud Pulverize!" Kadie turned to see a green dog creature standing between them and the bugs. It released 2 flower buds from the bloom around its neck like a clowns neck piece. The buds sailed through the air and just before they hit, they exploded, sending lots of hard pieces smashing into the bugs and scaring them away.
Kadie collapsed on the ground right were she was. Darien sat down beside her. "Uh! I can't take much more, Darien!" She looked at the sky. "We need to find somewhere to rest for tonight. We need some shelter and some food. Man! Now I sound like I'm on Survivor or some lame show like that! Weren't the others behind us? Oh, man! The last thing we need right now is to be separated!"
Chance and Chey were standing in a clearing that looked the same on all sides. "Great! First we lose Gage, now Kadie and Darien! Is it just me or are we having some bad luck today?"
"NOT FUNNY, Chance! What if something happened to them? What if a big monster, like Stisha said there were, got them?! We'd be up the creek without a paddle! We can't go home without them!"
