Gage was telling them about his encounter with the strange woman while they walked to the grotto.
"First five found their partners? What does that mean?" Chance was trying to be more patient than usual, but this made no sense.
"It means us, Lame-o. Five of us, five Mythicamon." Each of the people looked around. Darien and Chili were already fast friends and could hardly ever be found apart. Gage and Pheatus were having lots of fun just being like regular little boys. Cheyenne and Stisha were as if they hadn't known a time when they were apart. Kadie and Fiona were finding out that they had a lot in common. Chance and Darter were still feeling through the subject. Darter wasn't sure he liked the idea of being anyone's "partner" and Chance wasn't sure he liked the idea of trusting a snake with his life.
"Here's the grotto, right Fiona?" Gage looked around to make sure of the surroundings. They all crawled through the opening. When they were inside, most of them gasped at the glowing energy in the middle of the room. The Mythicamon were staring solemnly. Chili wasn't looking at the ball, she was looking a the walls all around them. "Look!" she cried out. Everyone started to turn around.
There, on the walls of the cave, were hieroglyphs and pictures of 14 Mythicamon and 13 people. Beneath each one of the people was a circle symbol and that circle was surrounded by several smaller circles, each one had a different sign on it. "My sign!" yelled out Cheyenne in front of one of the large symbols. It was a picture of waves with under current. She began studying the smaller circles around it. One looked like a long, webbed fish tail, and there were several others too. Kadie had the flower charm and it had dragonfly wings on one of the circles. Darien had a long curly feather and one of her circles had feathered wings. Gage had an arrow looking charm with a goats horn instead of the arrow head. He noticed the circle that looked like a goat's hoof. Chance had the charm that looked like two lightening bolts entwined. He noticed the one that looked like a sword, only it was shaped like lightening. "What are those other circles? The big ones look like the ones we have now, but what about the others?"
Kadie continued looking around the cave. "Here are the four I sent to Kerri. One looks like a rainbow on two clouds, another looks like a storm from one cloud, this one looks like an Egyptian symbol, and that one looks like a star in a snowflake. The two with clouds had a smaller circle that's shared. This is so weird." She looked at the pictures of the people. "That one looks like me!" She pointed to a girl that was above the flower pendant. "And this one looks like Darien! And Cheyenne! Guys all of us are up here!"
"Hey! These are the two people from earlier!" Darien pointed up on a remote side of the cave. Sure enough, the two young people from earlier were depicted on the wall to acute accuracy. The small horse was beside the boy and a butterfly with a human face was beside the girl. "Those must be their Pre-Shifting forms."
"Well, there are 13 humans, and 14 pendants. I figure the others work with the large pendant some how, you know?" Darter was finally starting to get used to the humans and speak his mind. "If this is anything to go by, I think that there is also a dark force that we are needed to vanquish." He pointed with his tail to the top of the cave where the writings show a dark cloud with black rain showering on the far side of the cave. The side that the two people were on.
"I wonder if that's what happened to my kind." Fiona was translating the strange writing on the walls. "It says that the strange darkness enveloped many of the Mythicamon in this world and tried to transport itself to your world, to gain even more power. Then 14 brave Mythicamon followed the darkness, bound on defeating it for good. Once on the other side, they found that the strange creatures there were full of a strength of their own. They made a strong bond with some of the humans. Together they defeated the darkness and sealed it away for eons. But now, something wants to feed off that darkness and has set it free to get stronger. Why? It's a disaster waiting to happen. The darkness doesn't know the difference between friend and foe." She looked around the cave. "Kadie, I'm going with you. To the other side. I'm going with you to protect you. What ever made these markings knows who you are. Our partnership might be both our worlds last hope. Please, Kadie? This is your decision. It is your home."
"I don't see why not. We already have 3 dogs, why not one more? You can stay in my room. You look almost like a stuffed animal."
"Yah! Darter looks like a belt, Chili looks like a stuffed bird, and Stisha looks like a rubber ducky! We might have a problem with Pheatus, though. What could he go as?" Darien was having trouble coming up with Pheatus's identity.
"We can keep grandma busy while you guys sneak in." Cheyenne pointed first to herself, Darien and Kadie, then to Chance, Gage, and Pheatus. "I'm sure we can sneak him home in the Bronco."
"Yah. I'm only wondering…" Kadie began.
"Wondering what?" Fiona asked.
"Well, we have charms and we got partners, right?"
"Yah, so?"
"My brothers got charms too. Where are their partners?"
"I think they have to be in this world to find them. I guess I'm going to have to help with a little talk to them when we get there, huh?"
"Then, we all go? Together?" Darter asked. He was curious about this new world and the creatures from it already, and he had met some of them.
"Together." Chance stated an affirmative.
"Then lets go. They're probably worried about us." Kadie started for the portal.
Darien tugged Kadie's shirt. "I forgot to tell you…Happy Birthday Kadie." Kadie smiled, took Darien's hand and walked up to the portal. She stuck up her hand, and her charm glowed brilliantly.
"Here goes nothing." She closed her eyes and walked through.
Fiona was in Kadie's bed, most everyone in the house was asleep. Brandon was in the room, staring as he had been for the last two hours.
"So you found a way around time and space and went to another dimension for what seemed like hours but was actually 10 minutes and you brought this Fiona back?"
"It would seem that way." Kadie was sitting at her vanity. She was cleaning out her closet, the Mythicamon would have to sleep there tonight. "How did your audition go?" She asked absently.
"Well, we got the gig. It wasn't nearly as exciting as your trip though. We play the Harley and Douglas Café next Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights." He looked for the millionth time at his wrist. "So you really think I have a partner too?" His charm, Fiona said, meant 'On the Scaly Wing.'
"Yes, Bam Bam, You get a creature to look after too." Her ears caught a strange noise from across the hall. Her brothers were writing a new song. After she had told them her story, inspiration struck them.
"Don't you give it up oh no!
When the world is at your command!
Because all of the powers of the galaxy,
Are wrapped around your beautiful hands!
Please!
Oh baby don't leave me alone!
Don't you See?!
What we have together we can't have alone!
So walk straight through to me, oh ho oh oh.
Don't look back the way you came!
It's des-ton-y! oh ho oh oh!
Can't you see nothen's gonna be the same!
No not since the day you came!
Don't you give it up oh no!
When the light is at your command!
Because all the powers of the galaxy,
Are wrapped round your powerful hands!
Oh Baby!
Are wrapped round your beautiful…
Oh ho!
Are wrapped round your mysterious hands!" It faded out on the last word and she could hear D.J. put the mic back in the holder and tell Jeremy about a note he had missed and some words that didn't "flow." Then she heard him open his door.
"Hey! Brandon! Get your lazy bum in here! Kadie you bring that dog thing too." Kadie looked at him angrily. "Don't look at me like that! Mom and dad are asleep and the least she can do since we're giving her room and board is help us with a song." He wandered back into Jeremy and Brandon's room and started tuning his guitar again.
"Fiona? Do you want to help my Neanderthal brother with his music career?" Fiona looked up interested.
"I suppose its better than becoming a lab dog on your bed." While Fiona was working with the guys in the bedroom, Kadie went to the kitchen for some snacks. She looked out the front window to make sure that her little cousins were alright. As long as they stayed in the fence, they could "train" outside. The younger ones were having a ton of fun running around the back yard, doing laps, and jumping jacks, and tag, and hide'n'seek. They were training for fighting, drinking lots of water and eating only fresh fruit and veggie sticks. Chili and Darien were working on her flying endurance. Chance and Darter were working on their "attack stats" and all around abilities. Cheyenne and Stisha were filling the hot tub up with warm water to give her a spa health treatment, or what Kadie called a relaxing make-over. She wished that the boys would stop asking Fiona questions so that they could go out and run around or do something!
More electric squacking sent Kadie running back into the bedroom. Brandon had turned off the amp and D.J. was about to get physical. Jeremy was holding him back as best he could. Fiona was hiding on the bottom bunk bed from Oscar, Kadie's Boxer that had jumped up to the top bunk when someone had left the door open.
"You idiots!" Kadie ranted, "What do you think your doing to Fiona?! You bumbling Football brained back-stabbing oafs! Oscar! Get your hairy hide out of this room now!" Oscar, sensing that this was not the time to beg to be picked up and put down, half fell half jumped and ran into the living room. Fiona looked at Kadie amazed. She didn't seem like it, but she was a powerful leader.
"NOW! Jeremy, Brandon! I want this room sparkling when I get back or Fiona's going back to Genesis Isle and I'm telling mom about you guys' little side trip to the Club when you went to get burgers with 'Your rodies.'" Jeremy and Brandon jumped and ran around the room in record time. "D.J! Your room better be spotless or mom's going to hear about the porcelin doll that was once in the living room that Oscar supposedly knocked off the shelve while we weren't home." D.J. walked into his room, muttering about pushy females.
Kadie sat down next to Fiona. "It's okay, Fiona. Oscar's gone. He's not usually in the house." She subconsciously stroked the frightened dog's tail. "I have to go get the others to come inside now, Fiona. Do you want to help?" Fiona was silent. "Fi?" She lifted the covers to see that she had put the grass dog to sleep. "Oh well, later then."
The kids were all in the kitchen, enjoying sandwiches, when the phone rang. Kadie picked up. "Hello? Kerri! I was trying to call you earlier…WHAT? You can't be serious! I knew that the charms were magical, but that's insane! Oh? Okay. Yah well you can get to another world with them by…." She continued talking and explaining until she hung up. "You guys won't believe this, but the charms work more than one way! Kerri just had an un-invited guest burst through a hole in her living room wall! We have to be super careful what we say when we are going from one world to the next from now on, okay?"
Okay! How do you like so far? I hope to get some more people reading this soon. This chapter was basically character build-up. Now you know more about some of our characters.
Stisha: Til next time!
