Free Verse—Carnivals Done

Grey sky
abandoned parking lot
empty rafters
sit smiling secretly.
pavement dead
creaking wood
The Wheel,
large, creakity,
dead still
no laughter comes from the seats set so high
no music so light and bouncy
the rain drizzles softly,
slow
trickle trick pit pat
the madness begins to grow inside
trickle trick pit pat
A teddy bear's arm,
cut closely cornered,
it's companion shivering with fright
a bag moves across the pavement,
free, graceful,
another mother's moan is heard.
