Next Time

By: Trulyshine

She collapses on the floor

Not believing her eyes

Her heart thumped loudly

Aching with somber cries

She had worked day and night

She was determined

And had performed with all her might

"I didn't make it

My heart-desired goal

I wish I could change this

Tell me this isn't true" she cried

"Oh! Why is it I

That has to feel blue?"

She feels discouraged

She feels so low

Her heart seems swollen

With the emptiness so large

Trying to stand up

Her body seems so heavy.

She can only walk

In a speed very slow

"Do I still have hope?

Why am I so cornered?

Would I try again?"

Reviewing in her mind

The day of the competition

She remembered the many others

Who must have also tried

She remembered the orange fires

Burning in their eyes

They burned brightly

Shining in the dark

She remembers them clearly

For she has seen it once before

In the mirror

In the eyes of her own

"I can't give up now

I'll try again

Working harder

I won't give up

And next time

The medal will be mine."
