Hurry Back

It's our wedding day.
We just got married.
How exciting. The next
day he leaves for war.

Hurry back, Hurry back.

Every week I'd send
him a letter. But I only
got a few. I pray to
God for him to be okay.

Hurry back, Hurry back.

After the war he didn't
come. They sent me
a letter, he came up missing.
I wouldn't believe it! No way!

Hurry back, Hurry back.

In five months they sent
me another letter, say he was
found. Dead I could not bear that
pain. The very thought of it made me shiver.

Hurry back, Hurry back.

Five years have past and
It seems like yesterday my
husband died. I still mourn
for him every Veteran's Day.

Hurry back, Hurry back.

Every Veteran's Day I go
see the wall his name
is engraved in. And know,
he'll never hurry back.
