Fire By Words

Fire by words is a hurtful thing,
Yet it was all we had to bring.
Fighting and fury, our gifts of love,
Self Destruction: the result of us.

Long ago, our worlds collided,
Playing characters we wished to be.
As bitter enemies we came together:
The spark of competition, key.

Our deep mind games lasted an age,
Confusing confusion of the game.
I'm still working out the details,
But there's nobody really to blame.

Our arguments were always fiery,
Even tender moments feeding the flames.
We could barely make it through one night,
Without weary sighs and hurtful names.

Sticks and stones may break bones,
But your sharp words could make me cry.
I certainly wasn't an innocent either:
It just makes me need to ask why.

I could analyse forever where we went wrong,
Instead i take a step far back
To remember the good times we had,
Grateful life is back on track.

It's comforting to know you're moving on.
I still smile when i think of you, love.
Success and happiness i hope for you,
Harsh words, we are now above.

Fighting and fury, our gifts of love,
Self Destruction: the result of us.
