Through the vines
And lush leaves
Basking in the beams
Of richly colored light
That filters weakly
Through the whispering
Canopy
I see you
Crouched by a still pool
Running one pale finger
Into its depths
Murmuring softly
To things only you can see,
Peering out at you
With bulging eyes
I see you
Listening to the soft sounds,
Birdsong piercing through
The thick atmosphere
Watching the gloom
As if just by staring
You could keep
Wild things away
I see you
Stepping through the water
Warily pushing through
Away from the pool.
Giving up your place
To those wild things
That you so long to be
But have not the power to join
You think I don't see you
But I see you
