inhale
bitter cold air stings your lungs
and you wonder why you do this
routine takes over
and you exhale
did that do any good?
another moment
another round of oxygenated blood
pumped to your frozen extremities
but you'd rather see it flowing into the snow
where you lay a fallen angel
where you lay and you lie and deny
and you watch the heaven from which you fell
wondering how to get back there
your thoughts a tortured frenzy
circular motion
and you wish for one thing only
simple love
uncomplicated by fear or geometry
missing the point entirely
and then lightheadedness
as you remember you forgot to breathe
and it begins again
inhale
exhale
my snow angel
